Whether you’re trick-or-treating or traveling through the neighborhood this weekend, help everyone get home safely:

🔦 Carry a flashlight and add reflective material to costumes or treat bags.

🚶 Use sidewalks and cross at intersections or crosswalks. Avoid stepping into the road between parked cars.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Accompany young children and keep your group together.

🚗 Drivers: slow down, put your phone away, and watch for children near roadways and driveways.

⏰ With the time change this weekend, remember to test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and change their replaceable batteries. If your alarms have sealed 10-year batteries, continue testing them and follow the manufacturer’s replacement instructions.

Have a safe and happy Halloween from Lee County EMA!

🚨🌪️ Did you know Alabama has TWO severe weather seasons?

While spring is typically our most active season, Alabama also experiences a secondary severe weather season from November through mid-December.

As we approach November, Lee County EMA encourages residents to take a few simple steps now to ensure their households are prepared before severe weather threatens our area.

⛈️ Take a moment to review your preparedness plan:

✅ Know Your Safe Place: Identify a small, interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.

✅ Have Multiple Ways to Receive Alerts: Don't rely on outdoor warning sirens alone. Enable Wireless Emergency Alerts on your phone and consider a NOAA Weather Radio.

✅ Review Your Emergency Supplies: Keep flashlights, batteries, medications, and other essential supplies readily accessible.

✅ Make a Family Plan: Ensure everyone in your household knows where to go and what to do when severe weather threatens.

✅ Understand Watches and Warnings: A WATCH means conditions are favorable for severe weather. A WARNING means dangerous weather is occurring or imminent, and you should take appropriate protective action.

⚠️ Taking a few minutes today to prepare can make all the difference when seconds matter.

📲 Stay informed and prepared! Download the Lee County EMA app or sign up for notifications through our website to receive important updates and emergency information.
