On October 8th at approximately 8:38 a.m., officers from the Orange Cove Police Department conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Park Boulevard and Anchor Avenue. Upon contact with the driver, the individual was identified as Brayan Martinez Ortiz. During the course of the traffic stop, officers were notified that Ortiz was wanted and had outstanding felony warrant, resulting in his arrest. A subsequent inventory search of the vehicle yielded a loaded fi***rm. Ortiz will face additional felony charges for fi***rm violations.

The Orange Cove Police Department is deeply saddened by the passing of Officer Brian Liles. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Officer Liles. Your dedication and passion will never be forgotten.

It is with profound sadness that the California Highway Patrol announces the line-of-duty death of Officer Brian Liles of the Visalia Area.

On September 28, 2026, at approximately 5:11 p.m., CHP Motorcycle Officer Liles was involved in an on-duty traffic crash on State Route 99, just north of State Route 190 in Tipton. He sustained critical injuries and, despite lifesaving efforts, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officer Liles, 44, served the people of California for more than 16 years. After graduating from the CHP Academy in 2010, he was assigned to the San Jose Area and later served in the Hayward and Fresno Areas before transferring to the Visalia Area in 2019.

Officer Liles is survived by his wife, two children, his parents, and two sisters.

The CHP Fresno Area joins the entire California Highway Patrol family in extending our deepest condolences to Officer Liles’ family, friends, loved ones, and all who had the honor of serving alongside him.

Brian was not only a dedicated officer, but a beloved friend whose loss is deeply felt by those of us who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. His dedication to public service, friendship, and commitment to protecting the people of California will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, brother.
