Elected officials need to be the voice of the people they represent; not special interests. That’s why I've raised concerns before about the money flowing into James Maroney's political action committee, A New Day PAC, from Hartford lobbyists.
Now, the latest campaign finance filing reveals even more and its concerning.
Maroney's PAC reported an additional $2,185 in lobbyist-related contributions this summer, bringing the identified total to $23,664.
Among those contributions was a donation from a lobbyist with Focus Government Affairs, a firm representing Flock Safety.
During our October 2 debate, Maroney addressed this very issue, saying:
“I think the lobbyist for Flock had donated to me before he was representing Flock. He may have donated after.”
The filing settles it. At the same time residents in the 14th District were sounding the alarm over their privacy, Maroney was pocketing money from a Flock Safety’s lobbyist — at an event right here in Milford - and refusing to back a special session to address this serious public concern.
This isn’t about one check. It’s about a repeated pattern: Maroney taking money from the same powerful tech companies and industry players he’s supposed to keep in check.
My question remains: Who does James Maroney really answer to; the people of District 14 or the lobbyists in Hartford and special interests?
As your state senator, my priority will be the residents of Milford, Orange, West Haven and Woodbridge; not special interests and lobbyists.
You deserve transparency, accountability and a voice in Hartford that puts your interests first and someone who will stand up to lobbyists.
