Orange Volunteer Fire Company OVFC is an all hazards volunteer fire department for the Town of Orange and Orange County community. The department first began under the direction of Dr. E.H.

The Orange Volunteer Fire Company began in 1921 and still remains as an all volunteer organization serving the Town of Orange and greater community of Orange County. Rouse. A.J. Harlow, Mayor of the Town of Orange, helped establish the department after a fire in 1908 leveled the downtown business district. The Orange Volunteer Fire Company has been led by nine Chief’s since its establishment. The department is currently led by Thomas W. Jacobs. As Fire Chief, he manages the day to day operations of the department. At his side are 2 Assistant Chiefs which handle both the Operational and Logistical load the department undertakes each and every day. The department elects a Captain who serves as the Training Officer and coordinates monthly training and tracks training data all year long. Five Lieutenants are also elected and each is responsible for apparatus upkeep and maintenance among many other job titles and positions the Fire Chief deems necessary. The company as a whole is comprised of over 35 individuals trained in Firefighting, Emergency Medical Services, Hazardous Materials, Truck Operations, and Technical Rescue. Annually, active members of the department accrue an average of 2,000 hours of combined In training. The hard work each member puts forth in training shows a true sense of pride for their community and the department’s success. The department operates out of the fire station located at 205 Caroline Street in the Town of Orange. Housed apparatus include:
2012 Class A 1500 GPM Pierce Impel (Engine 23)
2017 Class A Pumper/Tanker 1500 GPM Pierce Velocity (Tanker 23)
2007 Class A 1500 GPM Rescue/Engine Pierce Dash (Squad 23)
2008 Rear-Mount 105’, Pierce Velocity Aerial (Truck 23)

Other units include:
2008 Chevrolet 2500 HD W/T operating as Brush 23
2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 operating as Support 23
Our Chief Officers utilize a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe LS which is setup to operate as a Command vehicle. All of our operations and equipment don’t come without a financial burden. The Orange Volunteer Fire Company relies on fundraising events to help offset operating costs accrued throughout the year. Of those events, they host and offer the following: Annual Fireman’s Fair, Golf Tournament, Steak Raffle Dinner, and Christmas Tree Sales during the holiday season. We appreciate the support from the community each year. If you find yourself interested in the department please contact us. Our website will certainly provide you with not only the means to contact us but learn about who we are as an organization. We encourage you to consider applying with us and serving this great community.

Attention - Crestview Dr. Subdivision, Knolls Rd, Walters Rd. and Constitution Hwy., town water customers. A contractor working for RSA repairing a two-inch leak at the Country Town Pool area. Broke a 2-inch gate valve and has required us to disrupt water service for them to make this repair. Water will be disrupted for approximately thirty minutes to one hour. We apologize for the inconvenience. Once water is restored you may experience air in your lines, this will clear up with use. Thank you

To our fire department followers and community : We need your help!

We are looking into options to host 1 or multiple Man vs Machine classes for Orange County. We are going to explore the option with VDFP’s HTR program; however, are there other reputable training cadres out there in the state you would recommend.

We are aware of PL Vulcan since they were the mastermind behind this course but we wanted to explore all options.

Comment below if you know of solid, reputable training cadres capable of putting on a course for the 2027 season.

Today we stand beside our OCHS hornets in solidarity. Many of us that volunteer at OVFC are students and graduates from years past. In light of yesterday’s accident, we pray for the families, students, teachers, law enforcement officers and our fellow Fire & Rescue volunteer and COFEMS staff who are dealing with all that occurred yesterday.

Please keep our community in your thoughts and especially all those who need them.

Today we honor and remember the life of our friend Craig Melson. For decades, Craig served our fire department and Orange County as a fireman, line officer and leader. In 1966 he joined our department and remained active until moving into Louisa County in the mid to late 2000’s.

After moving away from the area, Craig continued his service up to his passing with the Trevilians Volunteer Fire Department.

Craig leaves behind a legacy of service to Orange County and Louisa County. His steadfast mentorship and passion to serve others will not be forgotten. We ask that you keep the Melson family in your thoughts and prayers.

May he rest in peace.

Congratulations to Weston Sadler on accomplishing all of his certifications towards becoming a released firefighter with OVFC. Weston, along with his classmates, spent 6 months and countless hours completing classes to reach this milestone. His hard work paid off and we couldn’t be more proud of his accomplishments.

Not minutes after presenting him his helmet, Engine 23’s crew took a call for a vehicle fire just up the road. The crew alongside personnel from County Fire & EMS and Mine Run VFC extinguished a passenger vehicle fire on Lahore road.

OVFC is proud of Weston and the entire graduating class. We look forward to seeing the services they provide Orange County in the years to come.

If you are interested in our department, check us out online for more information and an application.

OVFC would like to give a special thank you to Joe’s Kwik Mart for their generous support today while we used their parking lot for the ladder trucks. They took the time to generously block off spots well in advance.

Thank you to their team of employees for their help!
