Working together makes a difference! As you may have seen from Commissioner Robert Viator, we recently partnered with Orange County TX Road and Bridge on a bridge change out in their Right-of-Way on Crosby Road in Vidor.

We're glad we could lend a hand to our partners at Orange County Road & Bridge on this project! Working together helps us accomplish more for Orange County. ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ“ธ Here's a look at the project while work was underway. Stay tuned... we'll share the finished results soon!

A few weeks ago, we celebrated the retirement of Jarrell "Dean" Morris after 9 years with the Orange County Drainage District.

Dean was one of our mechanics, and while I can't tell you that I ever heard him say very much... I can tell you he always had a smile when I saw him. ๐Ÿ˜ŠAccording to his supervisor I just didn't catch him on the right days!

For nearly a decade, Dean was part of the crew behind the scenes keeping our equipment working and our field crews moving. That's an important job, and we're thankful for the time, work and experience he gave to OCDD.

Now, he's got a little more time for something he enjoys... traveling.

Dean - as you head into retirement, we hope you enjoy every mile, every new place and every adventure that comes with having a little more freedom in your schedule.

Happy retirement... and happy travels! ๐Ÿงณ๐Ÿš—โœˆ๏ธ

Thank you for being a part of the OCDD team. We wish you all the best in this next chapter!

Recent flooding in Las Vegas is a powerful reminder of just how quickly water can accumulate when heavy rain moves through an area.

Here in Orange County, drainage is a little different, but the goal is the same... moving stormwater where it needs to go.

That's why maintaining our local drainage infrastructure matters, even when the skies are clear!

๐Ÿ“ข OCDD Board Meeting

We're trying something a little different next Tuesday!

Our October Board Meeting will be held in the evening at 6:00 p.m. to give landowners and community members who work traditional 9-to-5 hours an opportunity to attend.

๐Ÿ“… Tuesday, October 13
๐Ÿ•  6:00 p.m.
๐Ÿ“ OCDD Administration Building

As always, the meeting is open to the public. We hope this evening meeting makes it a little easier for those who can't attend during our usual daytime meeting hours.

We all know how quickly weather and other emergencies can change. One of the simplest ways to be prepared is to know where to get reliable information before you need it.

For local emergency information:

๐Ÿ“ฑ Follow the Orange County Office of Emergency Management for updates and information specific to our area.

๐Ÿšจ Sign up for STAN to receive emergency and weather notifications on your phone. STAN can send alerts to specific areas affected by an emergency.
๐Ÿ”— www.thestan.com

๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Know your trusted weather source and keep an eye on conditions before severe weather arrives.

You can also find preparedness and disaster resources for Texas through FEMA's Texas location page and TexasReady.gov.

Being prepared starts with knowing where to turn for information. Don't wait until an emergency is happening to figure it out.

Twenty-five years later, we remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

We remember the families who lost loved ones, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the countless acts of courage and kindness that followed.

Today, we pause to remember.

We will never forget.

A ditch is a ditchโ€ฆ right?

Well, not always. ๐Ÿ˜…

Depending on where that ditch is located, it may be maintained by TxDOT, Orange County Road & Bridge, your city, or the Orange County Drainage District.

We put together a quick guide to help you figure out who to call before you make the call.

๐Ÿ“ State highway ditch?
๐Ÿ“ County road ditch?
๐Ÿ“ Inside city limits?
๐Ÿ“ Ditch running through your property?

๐Ÿ‘‰ Find out who handles it: https://ocddtx.com/who-do-i-call/

And if you're still not sure, that's okay! Give us a call at (409) 745-3225 and we'll be happy to help point you in the right direction.

Sometimes getting the right person involved is the first step toward getting the problem solved. ๐Ÿ‘
