The new Library Outreach vehicle has arrived! Much of the library's service area actually lies beyond Oregon City limits, and the new vehicle will allow us to go "beyond the walls" to bring library programming and services to more people. Much of the cost was covered by donations from both the Friends of the Oregon City Public Library and the Oregon City Library Foundation, in addition to the $10,000 gift from the Carnegie Foundation earlier this year. Keep an eye out, as you'll soon see it at a public event near you!

We had a last-minute opportunity to host an author event with Stuart Gibbs in partnership with Spoke & Word Books. The author of multiple NYT-bestselling children’s books, including the Spy School series, stopped by the library on Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the fourteenth Spy School book, Spy School Goes East. He shared photos and videos of the research trip he took to China, where the book is set, including the Great Wall of China, Shanghai Tower, and a panda sanctuary. Five lucky winners went home with a free copy of the book provided by the library, and everyone else went home with a signed book from home or a signed bookplate.

Kids can enjoy a presentation from Gibbs and have a chance to win his newest book: "Spy School Goes East."
The visit is Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m.
There is limited capacity, so please register ahead of time at the link on the Library's home page. Thank you to Spoke & Word Books in Milwaukie for sponsoring this amazing event.

Every 4th Thursday the library is having B.A.M. Academy, a series of life skills programs for adults with disabilities. This month we had two sessions of Cooking with Veronica held in the kitchen of Willamette Falls Television. The theme was 'Pretzels' and the group made pretzels of several varieties to suit every taste.

Every September, Library Card Sign-Up Month celebrates the power of libraries to connect people with knowledge, opportunity, and lifelong learning. It highlights the importance of free and equal access to books, digital resources, and information for everyone in the community. This message continues during Banned Books Week in October, which recognizes the freedom to read and raises awareness about attempts to remove or restrict books. Together, these events remind us that our voices, choices, and curiosity matters—and that everyone deserves the freedom to read!

The Freedom to Read Art Contest invites teens to create and submit original artwork celebrating the freedom to read, the power of libraries, and the importance of having access to diverse ideas and stories.

The winning entrant will receive a $100 cash gift card and an honorable mention prize of $25 will also be awarded. Winners and additional submissions that meet the criteria may be chosen to be in a traveling exhibition and/or appear in a zine.

EDIT Thursday 9/17: This week's class has passed. Please join us on the third Wednesday of each month from noon to 1 p.m.

Please join us for our Inclusive Mixed Ability Dance Class! The DanceAbility method will be used to learn principles of improvisational dance for all people. The class offers an opportunity for self-expression, creativity, and builds self-esteem and confidence. Our goal is to create a culture of dance that eliminates isolation and builds community. We honor each person’s movement language. Participation is completely voluntary, and it is fun! *Programs for our Disability Community*
