Medicaid connects one in five Wisconsinites with health care, long-term care, and other services. That's more than a million people, but we believe in making decisions about programs and policies with input from the people they affect.

That's why we have boards, committees, and councils. They're groups that meet regularly to talk about Medicaid policies and services. They include people from across the state who share how Medicaid programs and services are working, what gaps there are, and how we can fix them.

Did you know that moving firewood can spread forest pests like spongy moth and emerald ash borer? Exotic insects hiding in or on wood can emerge and establish in new areas, threatening forest health. Protect Wisconsin’s great outdoors this fall by buying local or certified firewood.

Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) confirmed that samples collected from non-lactating dairy cattle in Waukesha County tested positive for the virus that causes epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD). Affected cattle typically exhibit only mild signs of illness and are expected to recover with supportive care. This disease has also been detected in tissue from wild and captive deer in the region. Humans are not at risk from insect bites or direct exposure to or consumption of meat or milk from EHD-infected cattle or deer.

EHD is a viral disease transmitted by biting flies, also known as midges or no-see-ums. EHD is typically found in late summer and early fall when insects are present in higher numbers. New cases generally subside after the first significant frost of the season.
