🚌 SCHOOL BUS SAFETY REMINDER 🚸

The Lamorinda School Bus Program has recently received multiple reports of vehicles passing stopped school buses while their red lights are flashing and stop arms are extended.

Please remember: When a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing, drivers MUST stop. This applies to traffic traveling in both directions unless the roadway meets the divided/multilane highway exception.

Our buses are stopping to pick up and drop off children, and passing a stopped school bus puts students at serious risk. Please slow down, stay alert, and help us keep Orinda students safe.

🚨 RED LIGHTS FLASHING = STOP 🛑!

☕️ Coffee with a Cop!

Orinda PD staff had a great time conversing with residents, answering questions, and getting to know members of the community. Chief Rossi and Deputy Ortega even got behind the counter to “help” serve up some coffee!

A big thank you to the staff at Peet’s Orinda for hosting us, and to all the residents who stopped by for the fun conversations. We enjoyed connecting with everyone and look forward to doing it again!

We are a little behind on our “first year of school” announcement, but Officer Taliaferro has been busy getting acquainted with her new duties—and getting to know the Orinda schools and community she’ll be supporting. She will be working closely with students, staff, families, and school administrators to help create a safe, positive, and welcoming school environment. Say hi 👋 to Officer Tali when you see her on campus 🚓🍎✏️

🚔 Keeping Danville’s Roads Safe

Earlier this week, our officers joined law enforcement partners from Orinda and Lafayette for a coordinated traffic enforcement operation throughout Danville.

Officers focused on areas identified by our Traffic Unit, with an emphasis on speeding, stop sign violations, distracted driving, and other unsafe driving behaviors.

The operation resulted in 120 citations being issued.

Thank you to our partners at Orinda PD and Lafayette PD for working alongside us to promote safer roads and help keep everyone in our community safe. 👮‍♀️🚓

Slow down. Stay focused. Follow the rules. Let’s keep Danville moving safely. 💙

🎂 CAUGHT IN THE ACT… CELEBRATING 90! 🎉🚔
Police were called to a loud party Saturday night in the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood, but when officers arrived, they quickly discovered the “culprit” was none other than Michael Rubinstein, who was busy celebrating his 90th birthday with family and friends.
Apparently, when you turn 90, you’re allowed to get a little rowdy. 😄
For Mr. Rubinstein, learning that his birthday party was lively enough to bring the police to the door may have been the best present of the night. After a brief investigation, officers decided to let the birthday boy off with a warning — after all, it’s hard to throw the book at someone when there’s birthday cake involved.
The officers stayed long enough to enjoy a slice and wish Mr. Rubinstein a very happy 90th birthday. ❤️
Here’s to Michael — 90 years young, still throwing ragers worthy of a police response, and proving you’re never too old for a little good-natured mischief. 🎉🎂🚔

Children are heading back to school - Safety Tips

As many children are heading back to school this month, the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff would like to offer some safety tips.

-Drivers please slow down and be aware of children walking and on bicycle and scooters, especially in residential areas and school zones.

-Drivers in both directions must stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing and "stop" arm extended. Children are boarding or unloading. You can continue once the bus starts moving again.

-Children walking to school should only cross streets at crosswalks and intersections and never between cars. Please obey crossing guards.

-Children riding their bikes or scooters to school should wear helmets and bright clothing.

-Those taking children to school should follow and obey the school drop-off procedures and speed limits.

Thank you for slowing down and being vigilant and safe!
