For those of you planning to go through the naturalization process, USCIS has now updated their policy to automatically extend green cards for naturalization applicants.

If you filed for naturalization 6 months prior to your green card expiring you no longer have to file form I-90, which made you eligible for a stamp in you passport which served as temporary evidence of you permanent residence status.

Filing early because of this new update automatically causes you to receive this extension and will help applicants who receive longer processing times.

This only applies to those applicants who filed on or after December 12, 2022; anyone who filed prior to December 12, 2022 will not receive this extension and if your green card expired you will still have to file form I-90.

🚨 Effective December 5, 2022 🚨TPS has now been extended for Haitians for another 18 months from February 4, 2023-August 3,2024 due to extraordinary and temporary conditions in Haiti at this time. This extension is only available for Haitians that has been in the US as of November 6, 2022. If anyone trying to enter after November 6, 2022 will not be eligible for TPS.

I myself went through this process 8 years ago when I was living in the Virgin Islands.
Basic requirements include:
-being 18 years older
-being a permanent resident for 5 or 3 years depending on how you obtained your status
-be a person of good moral character
- have basic knowledge of US government
-have a period of continuous residence in the US
You should be able to read, write, and speak basic English; exceptions to this includes:
-being 55 years old and PR for at least 15 years
-being 50 years old and PR for at least 20 years
-have a permanent physical or mental impairment

If your Permanent Resident Card was issued to you for 10 years and will expire or expired within 6 months then it’s time to renew.

If your card was issued for 2 years then you are a conditional resident and will need to file a petition to remove the conditions of your residence before it expires.

You will need to replace your card or any information on it needs to be changed, or if lost, stolen, or damaged.

Once you are a lawful permanent resident, you may help a relative become a lawful permanent resident based on your status. You first would have to sponsor them and be able to prove you have enough income or assess to support them when they come to the US.

You may petition for your husband or wife and unmarried children/children.
