When you dial 911 in an emergency, every second counts. But before emergency responders even hit the road, a team at Orlando City Hall has already mapped out the fastest way to get to you.

Behind the scenes, Orlando’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team maps everything from fire hydrants and response zones to real-time construction and city addresses. Working alongside Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), GIS feeds information to dispatchers so help arrives quickly. It’s the work you never see, but it keeps Orlando safe and connected every day.

From mapping emergency response routes to guiding smart city development, GIS is part of the invisible infrastructure keeping Orlando future-ready.

A big day for Orlando and the organizations making a difference in our community.

Orlando is fortunate to have so many nonprofit organizations that provide critical services, resources and opportunities to residents. Today, our City Council approved a total of $4 million in grants to 64 groups making a meaningful difference in our community.

City of Orlando - Government is proud to invest in organizations that address local needs, strengthen neighborhoods and improve the quality of life for residents throughout Orlando.

Sabrina Dessalines lives just around the block from South Street Urban Farm in Parramore. Now, she’s bringing the farm’s new composting shed to life with artwork that shows how reducing food waste can help our community grow stronger.

The off-grid, solar-powered facility, funded through a USDA grant, turns food scraps into nutrient-rich compost for home gardens, community gardens and urban farms.

Last week, we marked the start of construction on new homes in Orlando with the groundbreaking of RoseArts in the Rosemont neighborhood.

Part of our Orlando Unlocked initiative to lower costs and build faster by repurposing underutilized properties, RoseArts will transform an abandoned golf course into a new mixed-use community.

Phase one alone will bring 1,600 homes for residents across income levels, family sizes and housing preferences.

It’s another step toward bringing more quality, affordable housing to our community.
