Happy Caturday!

Yesterday the third dog patient of mine has drowned in a pool this year. Seriously people, if you have to put a fence around a pool (legally) if you have children, why aren't you creating some form of barrier for the pets? Additionally, if you have pets, you really shouldn't let the outside unsupervised, especially if you have a pool! This is a big trigger for me as a veterinarian. There are very few ways to die (IMO) worse than drowning. I suppose burning to death is right up there with drowning. I just cannot imagine the terror those dogs experienced during their final moments alive. I have a pool. I have jumped in before because one of my dogs accidentally fell in. They didn't die because I was out with them. I have since created a row of large pavers that creates a boundary blocking them from reaching the pool. Sure it's not super pretty, but it get the job done. If your dog is old or blind and you have a pool, you are an idiot if you don't create a barrier blocking them from the pool. Be better pet owners.

** URGENT!** Laya still needs a forever home.

Laya is an 8yr old, F/S, Golden mix. She weighs 55 pounds and is vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP/CV, CIV, and Bordatella. She is on heartworm and flea control. She is fine with other dogs, she is fine with cats, she is fine with children. She is super sweet and still full of love. She lived for many years in an apartment with 2 cats and another dog. She was the odd pet out when they moved. She didn't ask for any of this, she is collateral damage.

She is currently staying at my hospital in a large run, but she deserves better. I am getting her out of the run as much as possible at work, but you can see the sadness in her eyes. Please pass this along, someone out there needs a good dog and she needs a forever home.

This is it folks. Don't let this dog go to the pound. Don't let this dog get killed! Layla has until Wednesday Morning to find a home or she is heading to the shelter, where she will sit in confusion and fear. Please, please, please spread the word. Someone out there has to be looking for a good, house broken, loving dog.

Layla is still looking for a forever home. The clock is ticking. She will be at OCAS or Humane Society in 1 week if we can't find her a home. 8 yr old, FS, fully vaccinated, great with other dogs and cats. Please help.
