Today we had a guest artist visit in the Band room. Mr. Gabriel Gordon worked with both of our orchestras and hung out with the jazz band this morning. He worked with both of our orchestras and sat in with our jazz band sharing his knowledge and love of music. Mr. Gordon resides in Utah and is a teacher, conductor there in addition to his guest conducting work across the U.S. Mr. Nichols is grateful for his sharing his knowledge with our young musicians and very happy for the extra time spent with his college friend.
Mr. Gordon is a nationally known conductor & violinist in town this week to conduct the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra for Orlando Ballet’s production of Sleeping Beauty. Mr. Gordon is also a college friend of Mr. Nichols. As a bonus; Mr. & Mrs. Nichols were able to see Wednesday Night’s dress rehearsal at Steinmetz Hall.
Orlando Ballet’s setting of Sleeping Beauty is visually and audibly stunning. We thank Mr. Gordon for his time today, and hope to have him back in the future. Mr. Nichols recorded Mr. Gordon playing some Bach for the students. (Video in the comments.)
