Our monthly meeting is Thursday, April 22,2021. Our speaker is Richard Cronin, a well known local historian who has written numerous books on Florida history. His topic is “Vicksburg Foes, Citrus CEOs”. About the formation of the Florida citrus industry after the Civil War by men who fought on both sides in the Vicksburg campaign.

Annual Banquet: This is a reminder that our annual banquet will be next month on May 27th. It will start at 6:00pm and be catered by Olive Garden. The three piece band called Seven Pounds of Bacon will play Civil War era songs and provide a presentation on their instruments. The cost of the banquet is $17.00 per person for members and $20.00 for non members. We need a head count for Olive Garden so please respond if you are planning to attend. We have acquired a wonderful piece of artwork that was copy-written in 1958 by Shelby Foote. It is entitled “The Darkling Plain Beyond Manassas”. It would be a nice addition to anyone’s Civil War collection. We will raffle it at the banquet. Tickets are $2.00 or 3 for $5.00.

We will meet this Thursday, September 25, 2020. Our presentation will be on the CSS ironclad, Arkansas by our very own Grace Erhart. The Arkansas was known as the ‘fightingest’ ship in the navy, led by Captain Isaac Newton Brown.
We are in need of programs. If anyone would volunteer to speak on a Civil War subject of their choice, it would be greatly appreciated.

We will have a meeting tonight August 27, 2020...!
Our own Rick Guenther will present an interesting lecture on Confederate General Jubal Early, who was a Virginia lawyer and politician before the war. After the war and then the death of Gen. Robert E. Lee in 1870, Early delivered speeches promoting the myth of the Lost Cause and helped found the Southern Historical Society.
Please wear masks and we will have snacks and drinks and spaced seating.

A meeting for July?? YES! Thursday, July 23rd we will feature our own Steve Patrick, who will give a presentation on 2 dozen Civil War letters and the stories contain therein. These letters are from both the North and the South and many feature patriotic covers (if our members recall, Steve is also a stamp collector).
We ask that our members wear masks. Precautions will include single serve sodas and prepackaged snacks.
Pine Castle Women’s Club has plenty of room for seating to be spread out.
