Solar is coming to Smith & College Park! ☀️

In 2017, Orlando set a goal to power all municipal operations with 100% renewable energy by 2030. Thanks to strong progress, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer moved that goal up to 2027, and we’re excited to add two more facilities to the list.

These solar panels help make our city more sustainable and resilient while reducing energy costs over time. Soon, residents at the Dr. James R. Smith and College Park Neighborhood Centers will be enjoying amenities powered by the sun!

Students at Wadeview Community Center are starting the summer as champions!

As part of Mayor Buddy’s Book Club Summer Reading Challenge, Wadeview students proudly took home the oversized championship trophy for having the highest participation and most quizzes passed for this year’s bonus summer reading book.

This school year, 695 students participated in weekly Mayor Buddy’s Book Club meetings, with attendance at monthly sessions increasing by 40%. Together, students read six books purely for the joy of reading outside of classroom assignments, helping build a lifelong love of learning.

The Summer Reading Challenge encouraged students to keep that momentum going during summer break, and Wadeview rose to the challenge in a big way. Congratulations to all of the students, families and book buddies who made reading a priority this year and helped make Mayor Buddy’s Book Club such a success!
