Congratulations to our October Super Stars Officer Mason and Officer Colon!⭐️⭐️

In July 2026 while performing their transportation duties, Officer Mason and Colon observed an individual lying on the street in traffic. They immediately pulled over to assist. Officer Colon contacted Fire Rescue, and Officer Mason redirected traffic and assisted the wounded man until Fire Rescue arrived to take over. We thank them for their commitment to the public safety of Orange County, no matter what their day brings.

Officer Colon started her career with OCCD as a Correctional Officer in December 2001. She has worked at Horizon, the Main, Hospital Security, and is now an officer on our Transportation Team. Officer Mason joined OCCD as a Correctional Officer in May 2022 and works in our Booking and Release Center. Congratulations and thank you for all you do.🎉

Honoring Champions of Courage. Yesterday we had the opportunity to attend the 2026 Signature Purple Door Luncheon where Harbor House of Central FL celebrated its 50th Anniversary.💜

Our staff members gathered at this special event, occurring during Domestic Violence Awareness Month each October, alongside community members with a shared purpose - ending domestic violence in Central Florida. This event not only raised awareness for this issue, but also honored advocates, celebrated survivors, and remembered those who lost their lives to domestic abuse. OCCD is proud to be with survivors, always.

This and every day we are proud to raise awareness and support mental health care.

Last month we participated in the Dave's House ‘Heroes Auction’ as part of the “Dave’s House Party” annual fundraising event. Dave’s House is an organization committed to providing permanent supportive housing for adults living with serious mental illness.

The auctioning off of our “Hidden Heroes Experience: Day in the Life of a Correctional Officer” returned to the program—raising $10,000 to support this important cause. The winners of this experience will soon visit our jail to get a behind-the-scenes look at our operations.

We are happy to continue supporting a cause so important to us and to continue educating about our department and the resources we have for those with a mental health diagnosis in our jail, as well as supporting the mental wellbeing of our staff that dedicate themselves to our community’s safety each day.

Highlighting another star staff member this … Meet Fiscal Clerk Arroyo-Mendez, who has been part of our Property Team for more than six years!🎉🤝

In her role as a fiscal clerk, Arroyo-Mendez has the opportunity to work in various responsibilities of our Property Team, including maintaining and releasing inmate property.

A big part of her role also involves interacting with members of the public, many of whom are family members of individuals in our jail. She says one of the most rewarding parts of her job is being able to take the time to answer questions, listen to concerns and help people understand the process.

As a bilingual member of our team, Arroyo-Mendez is also able to communicate with members of our Spanish-speaking community. She says being able to provide that additional support during what can be a stressful time is one of the things she enjoys most about her role.

Thank you, Arroyo-Mendez, for more than six years of dedication to our department and for the work you do each day to assist our community!

🍊🏆Congratulations to Correctional Officer Timothy Williams who was honored as a top finalist at the Orange County, Florida 🍊 Orange You Amazing Zest Award Employee Recognition Ceremony. The judges pored through thousands of nominations to arrive at 12 top finalists, and we are proud that Officer Williams was among the Zing Award recipients. He also was chosen as one of the top 12 employees to receive one of three Zest awards, further recognizing his heroic actions.

Officer Williams was nominated for his role in saving a little girl from being abducted from the bus stop where he was waiting with his own children. His actions clearly demonstrated his commitment to public safety—even while off duty. When he noticed a strange man lurking around and trying to interact with the child, he was able to stop the man and remained on the scene and held the suspect until deputies arrived.
