--For Immediate Release--
The Pulse nightclub site is sacred ground where 49 lives were stolen in an act of horrific violence.
Yet nearly a decade later, no permanent memorial has been built.
As we’ve seen, temporary displays fail to properly honor the victims and support survivors.
The rainbow crosswalk here in Orlando was painted over for the same reason that Seminole County just had to repaint its green crosswalks back to black — federal transportation regulations.
Painting over this temporary display had nothing to do with erasing the memory of Pulse, and until we dedicate a permanent memorial, our community will continue to face this problem.
Let’s use this opportunity to begin a real conversation about how to build a worthy and permanent memorial to the Pulse Nightclub victims — one that their families, the survivors, and our community deserve.
