Garden Club students brought their Roots & Shoots grant to life by installing a new raised garden bed at Encore Assisted Living & Memory Care.

Roots & Shoots, founded by Dr. Jane Goodall, empowers young people to become compassionate changemakers by taking action to make a positive difference for people, animals, and the environment 🌎🐒🌱

This project was about much more than just planting a garden. It brought multiple generations together—creating meaningful connections, building empathy, helping combat isolation, building a stronger sense of community and reminds us that everyone has something valuable to contribute. Caring for plants and watching something grow can nurture both physical and emotional well-being.
We are proud of our students for creating a space that will continue to grow, bring people together, and nourish both our community and our environment. 💚

To prepare for Food Waste Prevention Week we were joined by our OCPS Sustainability Coordinator in the lunchroom to remind our students of cafeteria composting best practices. It also gave us an opportunity to conduct an unopened food audit to brainstorm ideas on how to improve our food waste prevention strategies! More to come ♻️ 🌎 🌱

🌼🌱 We’re excited to be a grant recipient of the Florida Wildflower Foundation’s Seedlings for Schools program! Mr. Hernan’s 1st grade class planted their very own wildflower patch, creating an outdoor classroom they’ll use throughout the year to explore plant anatomy, life cycles, and the important role wildflowers play in our ecosystem. 🌻🐝 We can’t wait to watch their garden—and their learning—grow!
