We appreciate the Town of Millinocket, Maine's leaf collection program! Remember, yard waste does not go in your regular trash bin.

Millinocket Town Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the free leaf collection service provided by the Public Works Department until December 15th. Please ensure that leaves are properly bagged and placed on the Town right-of-way (tree belt area) for pickup. If you have any questions, call (207) 723-7030.

The Municipal WasteHub and Innovative Resource Recovery’s state-of-the-art recycling facility in Hampden, Municipal Waste Solutions, is a powerful asset for Maine, positioning it as a national leader in next-generation waste processing, protecting Maine’s renowned natural resources, and using environmental business as an economic engine to lower costs to residents, create jobs, and make Maine businesses more competitive.

As the first next-generation recycling facility in the country, the facility uses its innovative process to help eliminate household sorting. This method of recycling will increase the level of municipal solid waste diverted from landfills from the typical 10-30% to over 50% thereby preserving dwindling landfill space for true waste with no beneficial reuse and keeping disposal costs low for residents.

We're celebrating another major milestone at our Hampden facility — the successful launch of our SECOND SHIFT! 🎉

Our new shift, operating from 4:00 PM to midnight, is already off to a strong start!

This expansion is an exciting step forward for Municipal Waste Solutions and Municipal WasteHub. With increased processing capacity and a growing workforce, we're better positioned to meet the rising demand for sustainable waste management solutions across Maine.

👏 A huge thank-you to our dedicated team for making this milestone possible! We now have more than 40 employees, including drivers, who are now part of the MWS team.

More progress. More capacity. More opportunities to keep Maine's waste out of landfills! 🌎

🐾🔬 Scotty’s Science Friday: What Happens Inside the MRF?

Ever wonder what happens when waste arrives at Municipal Waste Solutions in Hampden?

Instead of simply sending everything straight to a landfill, the facility processes the waste stream to recover useful materials. Equipment such as screens, magnets and optical sorters helps separate different materials so they can be recovered for recycling or other beneficial uses.

♻️ The goal? Recover more. Landfill less.

Every material we can successfully recover helps conserve landfill capacity and supports Maine’s goal of diverting 50% of municipal solid waste from landfills.

Maine has a goal of diverting 50% of municipal solid waste away from landfills—and Municipal WasteHub is helping communities be part of the solution.

Through Municipal Waste Solutions in Hampden, recoverable materials can be separated from the waste stream and directed toward beneficial uses instead of simply being buried in a landfill.
