A few spots remain in award-winning poet Laura Donnelly's free Poetry in Nature workshop, happening this Saturday, October 24, from 10:30 to noon at Rice Creek Field Station.

This workshop offers participants the chance to explore our connection to the natural world through poetry, first by reading and discussing examples, and then using writing prompts designed to spark new poems. At the end of the session, participants will discuss what came up in their writing.

This is a pressure-free writing space—new and experienced writers are all welcome!

Instructor Bio: Dr. Laura Donnelly teaches poetry at SUNY Oswego and serves as chair of the English and Creative Writing Department. She’s the author of two collections of poetry, Watershed and Midwest Gothic. She loves gardening, Great Lakes, and watching the birds in her backyard.

As part of SUNY Oswego's Friends and Family Weekend (though open to everyone!), Rice Creek is hosting several programs, with something for everyone.

This Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., join Rice Creek Associates for their Inspired by Nature event, including a silent art auction, live music, seasonal refreshments, and a leaf printing workshop. Bring cash or a check if you wish to bid!

Also on Saturday, we're hosting a Guided Nature Walk at 11 a.m., led by one of Rice Creek's naturalists. An accessible route is available.

Additionally, on Saturday and Sunday evenings, weather permitting, Dr. John Zielinski will be hosting Telescope Observation Nights from 7–9 p.m. Visitors will observe the Moon and Saturn. Please call 315-312-6678 after 6 p.m. for a recorded weather update.

Rice Creek Associates' highly anticipated silent art auction is just around the corner! On Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., stop by to view and bid on almost 70 pieces "Inspired by Nature," while enjoying c***r, doughnuts, and hot beverages. From 1 to 3 p.m., visitors can also enjoy live acoustic music from Dick Drake and the Band, and create their own art with a free drop-by leaf printing workshop.
