DATE: Friday, October 9

TIME: Guests may arrive no later than 9pm and *must be back in their vehicles no later than 10pm.*
You’re welcome to enter and explore the park during the day and end with this hike. 😊

-

LOCATION: Fire Wave Trail;
Parking Lot ‘P3’ ~5 miles north of the OLD Visitor Center.

DIRECTIONS*: Set your destination "Fire Wave Trailhead" in Overton, Nevada. BOTH the West and East Entrances to the park will be OPEN on Friday. The turnoff towards the trailhead is around 4 miles from either entrance.

*If you’re coming from Vegas on I-15N, use Exit 75 even if your map app tells you the road is closed. Our West Entrance is Closed Monday-Thursday, but OPEN Friday-Sunday. Many map apps haven't figured out the schedule and may try to route you to Exit 93).

-

DETAILS: Tealights guide the way on the 1.5 mile (0.75 miles out, 0.75 miles back) hike to the Fire Wave formation.
The trail is over loose sand and rough, rocky terrain. There is one area with stone steps.

COST: Included with regular park entry fees, which can be paid at the kiosks at either entrance.

MUST KNOW: We are ONLY doing the out-and-back trail to Fire Wave, not the full Seven Wonders Loop or any other trail.
Since this event is occurring on the new moon, it will be DARK. (A fun comparison for those of you who’ve done a full moon hike with us before!)

WHAT TO BRING: Water, proper hiking shoes, and a flashlight with a red, blue, or green setting (these colors are less disruptive to others and help preserve your night vision).
Guests may also bring chairs, blankets, etc. to sit and observe the night sky! Telescopes are also welcome.

Coming to Valley of Fire on a weekday? Please note the Park can NOT be accessed from Exit 75 on the I-15!
Instead, take Exit 93 from I-15, or drive through Lake Mead National Recreation Area, to access Valley of Fire from the East entrance/exit.

Navigation aids have been sending many of our visitors to West side of the park, which is CLOSED Monday-Thursday until further notice.

Here we are posting photos of the road closure sign that was placed off Exit 75 at the border of the travel plaza area (before mile marker 1) as drivers head towards the Park. Some people are missing this sign, which was placed here during the first week of construction.
Be on the lookout! If you see these views when following your GPS, you may have taken the wrong exit.

Beginning August 3, 2026, the West Entrance at Valley of Fire State Park will be temporarily closed Monday through Thursday to allow for construction of a new entrance lane and additional fee booth. The project is designed to improve park access and reduce wait times for visitors.

The West Entrance will remain open Friday through Sunday under normal operating hours.

Visitors planning to visit the park Monday through Thursday should enter through the East Entrance, which can be accessed via State Route 169 or State Route 167. From I-15, take Exit 93 through Overton.

Construction is expected to continue through the end of 2026. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve the visitor experience.
