On this Father's Day, we celebrate and thank all of our military fathers, veterans, and active-duty dads whose love, sacrifice, and dedication have shaped their families and strengthened our nation. We also recognize and honor the moms who have stepped into the role of both mother and father, providing unwavering guidance, support, and love for their children.

From all of us at Oviedo Memorial Post 243, Department of Florida, American Legion, we wish you a Happy Father's Day filled with family, joy, and cherished memories.

Each year we select a Legionnaire of the Year. This year the award was presented to Ken Howell in recognition of his outstanding service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the Post, the community, and his fellow comrades. Selected nearly unanimously by our membership, Ken has demonstrated the true spirit of a Legionnaire through his willingness to serve, support, and lead wherever he is needed. For these reasons, we are proud to honor Ken Howell as our Legionnaire of the Year. Congratulations, Ken!

I am proud to recognize and honor our Post for its outstanding achievements over the past year. Through the dedication, hard work, and commitment of our members, the Post achieved 107.34% membership, an incredible accomplishment that reflects the strength and unity of our organization. In addition, we established an All-Time High for five consecutive years (2022-26), a remarkable milestone that speaks to our continued growth and excellence. We were also honored to receive a Certificate of Meritorious Service, further affirming the meaningful impact of our efforts and the pride we take in serving our community. These achievements are a testament to the spirit, perseverance, and exceptional leadership that define our Post. Congratulations to everyone whose contributions made these honors possible.

We extend our congratulations to Post 243 Sergeant at Arms Kim Bean, who received the runner-up award for Sergeant at Arms of the Year at the 107th Department of Florida American Legion convention.

Even though I missed this year's State convention, I'm absolutely ecstatic to share my enthusiasm for Post 243 - Commander Doug Rodgers from Post 584 and I had an memorable experience exchanging stories about our time in the Air Force.

And always remember: Never leave home without your Post 243 Challenge Coin.
