Just a heads up - this is a notice from Seminole County. Be sure to dump excess water if you have any collected in areas around the house.

MOSQUITO-BORNE ILLNESS ADVISORY: The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole) is informing residents of a confirmed human case of locally-acquired dengue. DOH-Seminole and Seminole County Mosquito Control are coordinating surveillance, prevention and control efforts.

The Department of Health continues to conduct statewide surveillance for mosquito-borne illnesses, including West Nile virus infections, Eastern equine encephalitis, St. Louis encephalitis, malaria, chikungunya, and dengue.

Seminole County Mosquito Control encourages residents to take proactive measures to reduce mosquito populations and protect themselves from mosquito-borne illnesses. Recommendations include:

✔️ Use Insect Repellent: Apply EPA-registered mosquito repellents following product instructions.
✔️ Cover Exposed Skin: Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and socks when outdoors, particularly in areas with increased mosquito activity.
✔️ Drain Standing Water: Empty containers that collect water, including flowerpots, buckets, birdbaths, tires, and other outdoor items. Mosquitoes can breed in very small amounts of standing water.

If you’re experiencing increased mosquito activity around your property, Seminole County Mosquito Control is actively responding to service requests. You can submit a request at www.SeminoleCountyFL.gov/Mosquito.

For more information on the advisory, contact the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County at 407-665-3243.

We want to feature our Budget Officer, Nadia Todor for . Behind the scenes, she works year-round on the City Budget to make sure it is balanced, but it is more than just plugging numbers into our finance system. It is about understanding the City's operations. Her daily responsibilities include transferring budgets, approving department expenses and making sure transactions are consistent with the budget.

When asked about what the most satisfying thing about being a budget officer, Ms. Todor replied, "Seeing the budget come together and knowing that the work we do directly supports all departments and the whole community. The budget process involves a new challenge every year and I enjoy both problem solving and the analytical side of the job, but the most rewarding part is knowing that the work has tangible impact on both the employees of the City and the residents."

The budget process includes Ms. Todor looking at the financial position of the City to get a clear understanding about what is needed for the next budget cycle. She identifies and compares budgets to fund balances, meets and talks with all departments and start to match department requests with available resources.

It is critical for her to identify challenges early in the process, which may include lack of resources for capital, staffing needs or increasing costs. It allows her to have more conversations with City Council to arrive at an informed decision. It is a team effort!

One misconception Ms. Todor addresses is the perception about City spending. The budget can increase for several reasons that can include inflation, contractual increases, market changes to employee compensation, as well as constitutional amendments concerning the minimum wage. It is important to understand what is driving the budget numbers. She tries her best to include a discussion of all the challenges each budget faces into the Budget Books in the City Manager’s letter and throughout the book.

We are thankful to have Nadia in our Finance team for the City! Florida League of Cities, Inc.

At the Monday, October 19, 2026 City Council Meeting, the Council adopted Ordinance No. 1776, which regulates micromobility in the City limits. This includes bicycles, skateboards, ebikes and emobility devices, scooters and one-wheels. This ordinance helps with pedestrian safety while allowing everyone to enjoy public spaces safely. We have posted the information about the regulations here: https://www.cityofoviedo.net/1276/Micromobility-Regulations We will be educating micromobility users going forward in hopes that we can make sure everyone is informed. We ask for parents to talk to their kids about approaching pedestrians on sidewalks, wearing their helmets and being safe and proactive while riding or operating their bikes, scooters and all devices. If you have any questions we encourage our citizens to call the Police Department at 407-971-5700.

continues and this week we want to take a 'behind the scenes' look at some of our departments. Today we want to feature Code Enforcement. The most asked question they get is "What does Code Enforcement do?" The primary mission of the Code Enforcement Division is to enforce the City's codes and ordinances through education, information and voluntary compliance. The goal is to promote a high quality of life for our residents and visitors to live, work and play.

"The most rewarding part of Code Enforcement is knowing that our work makes a positive difference in the community. We have the opportunity to help residents and property owners understand the requirements of the City’s codes and work with them toward solutions that benefit everyone," said Shakeria Moyer, Code Enforcement Supervisor, when asked about the most rewarding part of Code Enforcement. "Seeing a property brought into compliance and knowing that it can improve the appearance, safety, and quality of a neighborhood is very fulfilling. I also enjoy the opportunity to educate and assist people, build positive relationships, and help make our community a better place to live."

The message Code Enforcement wants to relay to the community is they are here to help, not just issue violations. They want to educate, community and work with residents and property owners to maintain the quality of our community.

Our Code Enforcement Team is available for questions and always willing to provide guidance to understand requirements of city code.

"By working together and taking pride in our properties and neighborhoods, we can help keep our community safe, attractive, and a great place to live," said Moyer.
