Here we go again. Rod Kuegel is back with another chart that cherry-picks its dates to tell you Daviess County is falling behind.
Look closer. His chart runs from 2014 to 2024. Charlie Castlen took office in January 2023, so eight of those ten years came before he was Judge-Executive. It’s also a regional number, not a Daviess County number. Rod wants you to blame Charlie for years he wasn’t even Judge-Executive.
Here’s what actually happened once Charlie got to work. 2024 was a record-breaking year for investment and job creation, according to the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation: $415 million in new investment and nearly 700 new jobs. That includes Swedish Match’s $232 million expansion and 450 jobs, the largest new jobs project in Kentucky that year, plus Mizkan America and R+L Carriers. Since then, UniFirst, Publix, and Clark Distributing have all invested here too. A chart that stops in 2024 can’t show any of that.
One more thing: Rod is a former chair of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation, and its own federal tax filings show he sat on its board from 2017 to 2020, right in the middle of the years on his chart. If those years were the failure he says they were, he should explain what he did about it from his seat on that board.
Rod can keep making charts. Charlie keeps landing jobs.
