TWENTY years ago tomorrow I had the greatest day! Lonnie and I spent the day looking at pictures, singing, sharing and talking about a future together. TWENTY years ago tomorrow night was pure Hell! Lonnie went out to meet a friend for dinner and said he'd be back soon. Lonnie never came back, that's the night he choked on chicken. By the time I got the news it was 12:13 at night. Now, I had to tell his sister, Dorrie. I must have walked around my house 100 times, watching the clock, waiting until I could reach Dorrie later that morning. I waited until I knew she would be at work, surrounded by friends/co-workers, so she would have support, because I didn't know what time David, her husband, left for work. THAT was one of the most, if not THE most, difficult phone calls I ever had to make. You always hear people say hug your loved ones because you never know when it might be the last time you'll see them. GREAT ADVICE!! Here I thought I would see Lonnie in about an hour or two, but the next time I saw him was at his funeral. He looked so peaceful, but that just wasn't good enough for me because I also knew that was the LAST time I would see him. "Life isn't fair" is an understatement!
