Visitors to the Granville Athletic Park (GAP) can now enjoy a new playground recently installed to replace the original playground equipment from when the park opened in 2004. The new playground was funded primarily through recreation dollars appropriated by the Granville County Board of Commissioners, supplemented by grant support from the Granville County Tourism Development Authority (TDA).

The new playground, located beside the picnic shelter, sound garden, and walking trail will complement the ADA-Accessible playground equipment that opened in 2021 located beside the tennis courts. The GAP welcomes thousands of visitors each month, many of whom are families with young children. This new equipment represents the most recent continued investment in the park by the Board of Commissioners, extending a commitment that spans twenty-two years.

“We believe the Granville Athletic Park is one of the top recreation sites in this region,” said Zelodis Jay, Chair of the Granville County Board of Commissioners. “We know the GAP is a major asset to our residents and draws in visitors from around the region for athletic tournaments or to just enjoy a peaceful environment. We hope that this new playground will be enjoyed by families for years to come.”

The Granville Athletic Park is a 79-acre recreation site located at 4615 Belltown Road, south of Oxford. The park features nearly two miles of walking trails, an 18-hole disc golf course, two soccer fields, four baseball/softball fields, six tennis courts, two sand volleyball courts, a covered pavilion, a picnic shelter, an amphitheater, and a spray park. The park is open year-round from dawn to dusk. Many of these facilities are available for private rentals.

For more information about the GAP and other recreation amenities in Granville County, visit the county website: www.granvillecounty.org/411/Granville-Athletic-Park
