This is an excellent demonstration on the importance of sleeping with your bedroom doors closed! We preach this message every year during fire prevention week.

❗️REMEMBER❗️

✅ Always sleep with your bedroom doors closed.

✅ Change the batteries in your smoke detectors twice a year during daylight savings time. TIME CHANGE = BATTERY CHANGE

🚫 Never charge your electronic devices in your bed.

🚫 Never leave batteries charging unattended. Remove the battery from the charger and unplug the charger from the wall before you leave the room.

WE teach fire prevention one week out of the year. YOU should practice your fire prevention skills every single day.

The SVFD is selling F-500 Charge Kits for water can extinguishers for $10. These kits take normal water cans and allow them to do the following:
- Put out fires more effectively
- Dissipate heat on metal surfaces
- Prevent fires from spreading
- Extinguish Class A, B, C, D, and Lithium Ion fires

Check out this video to see why we use F-500 when we get called to a fire. https://youtu.be/GF_AzXJ5Jpc?si=LSqzWEMKcqsNLNzC

🚒🔥 Fire Prevention Week at Southern Valley Elementary! 🔥🚒
Members of the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department spent time with students at Southern Valley Elementary School discussing fire safety and prevention.
This year, we conducted a live lithium-ion battery fire demonstration, showing students and staff the dangers these batteries can pose when they overheat or fail.
The department also donated a lithium-ion fire extinguisher to the school to help keep students and staff safe.

Members of the Oxford Fire Department participated in this year’s Farm Safety Day at Southern Valley.
7th and 8th graders from across Harlan and Furnas Counties learned about farm emergencies, including wildland fires, heavy equipment accidents, and grain entrapment.
Thanks to Stamford VFD for helping out!

Firefighter Tre Norman and Lieutenant Jared Bennett are visiting New York City this week, and decided to leave a little piece of Oxford Fire in Lower Manhattan.

O’Hara’s Restaurant & Pub was damaged during 9/11, but was rebuilt and reopened to emergency personnel assisting with the cleanup and recovery efforts. They accept patches from all over the world, and we are very proud to be apart of their collection!
