Hillel at Miami University is the center of Jewish life in Oxford, OH.

Hillel at Miami University's mission to enrich the lives of Jewish students at Miami University so that they may enrich the Jewish people + the world. Hillel at Miami University provides a wide variety of social, educational, community service, religious, Israel-focused, holiday, and cultural experiences for the students, faculty, staff, and community in Oxford, Ohio. Jewish holiday celebrations include: Weekly Shabbat services followed by a home cooked dinner, High Holiday services, and Passover seders and kosher for Passover meals. Located one block from campus, the Beerman Jewish Student Center houses a library, computer lab, wireless internet throughout the building, TV and game lounge, chapel, dining room, and Kosher kitchen accessible to students and student organizations.

"I tried to keep it a secret," Ava says. The secret was that she'd never been bat mitzvahed.

She grew up one of three Jewish kids in a class of 500. No Hebrew school, just "bits and pieces" of Jewish life: the traditions, the Hanukkah fun. "It made me who I am," she says. But when she stood in Jerusalem with thousands of Jewish athletes after winning a karate gold medal with Maccabi USA, that old doubt crept back in: was she Jewish enough to be there?

Then she got to Miami University. She almost skipped the Hillel welcome barbecue. Walking in alone felt like too much. Her roommate told her to go. She went. She kept going back.

Today, Ava is the one who notices a freshman hovering by the door and pulls them in. Every Friday, she's back at the Shabbat table.

Mon, Oct. 19 Mahj Monday with Sarah 11 AM–1 PM @ Armstrong Slant Walk Sarah’s teaching, we’re snacking, and you’re invited. No experience needed just vibes and tiles. 🀄

Tue, Oct. 20 Baked Potato Bar 11 AM @ Hillel The great equalizer. Cheese, sour cream, chives, whatever your heart says. We’re not here to judge your ratio. 🥔

Tue, Oct. 20 NBA Opening Night Watch Party 7 PM @ Hillel The season tips off and we’ve got the couch. Come argue about your bracket with people who care way too much. 🏀

Thu, Oct. 22 Freshman Pumpkin Decorating 6:30–7:30 PM @ Hodge Hall. All First-years are invited to join us and this is your moment. Paint it, carve it, glue googly eyes on it we support all creative decisions. 🎃

Fri, Oct. 23 L’Chaim Shabbat 5 PM @ Hillel The week ends, the table fills up, and everything slows down for a bit. Come be part of it. 🕯️

Our Family Shabbat was the perfect start to the weekend!! 🕯️

Rooms full of people, bellies full of food, and so many new faces we loved getting to meet your families. 💙

Saturday morning we prepped for the game the right way: lox, croissants, and pastries. 🥐

And we capped it all off with a RedHawks win! 🏈

Okay, big week ahead at Hillel. Here’s what’s going on 🍂

Tuesday, Oct. 13 Rosh Chodesh Women’s Gathering, 6 PM at Hillel Caramel apples, charcuterie, and painting pumpkins!

Wednesday, Oct. 14 Family Weekend Tabling. Come by and say hi to us at The Seal! We are excited to hear if you’re bringing your family.

Thursday, Oct. 15 Kenna on Campus, 12–3 PM at Shriver Starbucks Swing by between classes and meet Kenna! Grab a coffee, chat for a bit, no pressure. Easy midweek hang.

Thursday, Oct. 15 Cap It Off, 7 PM @ Calendula 21+ friends, this one’s for you. Come grab a drink on us, catch up with everyone, and enjoy a night out. You’ve earned it.

Friday, Oct. 16 Family Weekend Shabbat! End the week the best way we know how, around the table together. Family, students, friends, good food. You know the vibe.

Saturday, Oct. 17 Tailgate Brunch, 11 AM at Hillel. Roll out of bed and come brunch with us before the game. Good food, good company, zero judgment if you show up in your game day gear. 🏈

A recap of yesterday.

October 7th is always a difficult day especially as a Jewish college student balancing classes, exams, and a thousand other responsibilities. But this year, Hillel, Olami, and Chabad came together to create a space where students could pause: light a candle, place a pebble in honor of a loved one lost, and be held by the Oxford community.

Later, our Israel Fellow hagarisinhillel brought us together once more for a beautiful evening of cooking and eating side by side. It was the perfect way to close a heavy day wrapped in community.

It’s been three years, but we don’t forget. 🕯️
