Yesterday, Oxford EMS had the privilege of welcoming a very special guest. The mother of a missing individual rescued by our Special Operations team earlier this year visited to personally thank the members who helped save her son's life.

Back in June, Oxford EMS Special Operations assisted the New Haven Police Department in the search for a missing individual with a developmental disability who had been missing for multiple days.

During the search, our Drone Search & Rescue team identified a visual anomaly in a heavily vegetated and swampy area. Our K-9 Search & Rescue team was directed to investigate where K-9 Koda and her handler successfully located the individual alive but in critical condition. After prolonged exposure to the elements, he was transported to the hospital for lifesaving medical care.

Yesterday's visit gave his mother the opportunity to meet the drone visual observer who first spotted her son, the K-9 team that ultimately located him, and the other members of Oxford EMS Special Operations who contributed to the rescue.

She shared her heartfelt gratitude, made a generous donation to support our team, and even brought plenty of well-deserved treats for K-9 Koda!

We were also honored to have State Rep. Jensen join us for this special occasion. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. The continued support of our community and local officials allows Oxford EMS to develop and maintain specialized search and rescue capabilities that serve not only Oxford, but communities throughout our region.

To the family, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and for allowing us to be part of your story. For our members, there is no greater reward than seeing firsthand the impact of our efforts and knowing we helped reunite a family.

A busy weekend for Oxford EMS! We kicked things off Friday at the Oxford PTO’s Books & Bites event, showing families around the ambulance and sharing what we do! On Saturday, our crews provided medical coverage for the regatta at the New Haven Rowing Club. We wrapped up the weekend with several other standbys in town, helping keep our community and local events safe. Throughout the weekend, we also maintained a fully staffed ambulance that responded to multiple emergency calls. A big thank you to our dedicated volunteers for their time and commitment to our community!

We had a great time visiting the Oxford 4-H Club this week to talk about what it means to be a volunteer and the important role volunteers play in our community.

Our K9 SAR team shared a little about training, teamwork, dedication, and search and rescue, including what goes into preparing both handlers and K9s for real-world searches. The kids got an inside look at how our team works together and why ongoing training is such an important part of being ready to help when someone is missing or in need.

Most importantly, we talked about volunteerism…giving your time, learning new skills, helping your neighbors, and being part of something bigger than yourself.

A big thank you to the Oxford 4-H Club for inviting us and for giving us the opportunity to share what we do! We hope we inspired a few future volunteers, handlers, and community helpers along the way.

Early yesterday morning, Oxford EMS responded alongside Oxford Fire Department and Oxford Police Department to a reported structure fire involving multiple victims.

Upon arrival, our crews identified five patients: four pediatric patients and one adult.

Oxford EMS Leadership worked closely with our Dispatch Center to coordinate and bring in multiple additional resources from Oxford and surrounding communities. This collaborative response allowed us to provide the necessary care and transportation for all five patients.

Incidents like this highlight the importance of strong regional partnerships and a robust mutual-aid system. When a large-scale incident occurs, the ability to quickly call upon neighboring agencies and work together is critical to providing the highest level of care to those in need.

We are grateful for the coordinated efforts of our local and mutual-aid partners who came together to support our community during this challenging incident.

Last night, Oxford EMS provided rehabilitation services during a working structure fire in town. J30, J40, J50, and our Medical Operations unit responded to the scene, ensuring EMS resources were readily available for firefighters and other personnel operating throughout the incident.

Our crews transported 3 individuals for evaluation, and remained on scene to support fire personnel with rehabilitation, medical monitoring, hydration, and additional EMS needs as operations continued.

Crews responded back to the scene this morning to support ongoing firefighting operations.

A special thank you to Seymour Ambulance for providing coverage for the Town of Oxford while our crews were committed to the incident. Oxford Center Volunteer Fire Company Riverside Fire Co. Quaker Farms Fire Company Seymour Ambulance Association

This week, the Oxford EMS Drone Division was requested to assist Tweed-New Haven Airport during its triennial emergency preparedness exercise.

Our team provided aerial overwatch throughout the exercise, giving the FAA’s exercise evaluators a comprehensive view of the simulated emergency response. Live UAS footage was also streamed directly to the Emergency Operations Center, providing real-time situational awareness to help inform decision-making throughout the exercise.

We were glad to provide these capabilities to HVN and appreciate the opportunity to work alongside airport personnel and participating agencies during this training event.

Check out the video produced by HVN highlighting the exercise, and the aerial footage captured by our drone team!

25 Years Later - We Remember

On this 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the members of Oxford EMS pause to remember a day that forever changed our nation and the emergency services community.

We remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost. We remember the families who were left behind. And we remember the brave men and women who answered the call that morning: firefighters, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, and countless others who put service before self.

Many of them never made it home.

For those of us who wear the uniform today, their story carries a special meaning. Every time we respond to a call, every time we step into an ambulance, and every time we stand beside someone on what may be the worst day of their life, we are part of a tradition built on courage, compassion, and a willingness to serve others.

We also remember and honor the 9/11 responders who continue to serve.

Twenty-five years later, some of those who ran toward the devastation on September 11th and the days following, are still answering the call, still putting on the uniform, still responding when others need help, and still dedicating their lives to serving their communities.

Their continued service is a powerful testament to their strength, resilience, and commitment. They carry with them the memories of those who stood beside them, the friends and colleagues they lost, and the experiences that changed their lives forever.

To those 9/11 responders who continue to serve today: we see you, we honor you, and we thank you. Your example reminds all of us in emergency services what it truly means to serve.

We also honor those who paid the ultimate price that day, and the responders who later lost their lives or continue to face the lasting consequences of their service.

Twenty-five years have passed, but the responsibility to remember, honor, and serve remains.

From all of us at Oxford EMS:

We remember those we lost.
We honor those who served.
We recognize those who continue to serve.
We stand with the families who continue to grieve.
And we will never forget.

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 - 25 Years Later - Never Forget.
