Today, on his last day of public service, we celebrate an incredible career and wish Fair Winds and Following Seas to Ventura County Harbor Patrol Officer James Hrabak on his retirement.

For more than 25 years of dedicated service with the Ventura County Harbor Patrol, which includes six years of service in the 1990s before returning to continue his career, Officer Hrabak has been a trusted protector of our harbor, our boaters, and our waterfront community. Between his time with Harbor Patrol, he took a unique detour to tour with the legendary Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, before answering the call to return to public service at the Ventura County Harbor Department.

Throughout his career, Officer Hrabak has been known for his professionalism, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to keeping Channel Islands Harbor safe. Whether assisting boaters, responding to emergencies, or mentoring fellow officers, he has left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to work alongside him.

As Officer Hrabak begins this exciting new chapter, his legacy will live on through the Ventura County Harbor Department’s Waves of Service program (an honor bestowed upon a small, dedicated group of employees with 20+ years of continuous service to the Harbor Department) ensuring his contributions remain a permanent part of the harbor he faithfully served.

Thank you, Officer Hrabak, for your dedication, your service, and the difference you’ve made over the years. Wishing you calm seas, new adventures, and a retirement filled with happiness. 🫡

Ventura County Harbor Patrol has been conducting ongoing training exercises with our public safety partners from the United States Coast Guard just outside Channel Islands Harbor.

These exercises help ensure local first responders are prepared for emergencies on the water and can work seamlessly together when every second counts. Training scenarios have included hoisting a swimmer in distress into a Coast Guard helicopter, deploying emergency dewatering pumps to assist vessels taking on water, and coordinating search-and-rescue operations between air and marine units.

Regular training strengthens communication, sharpens skills, and reinforces the partnerships that help keep Channel Islands Harbor and the surrounding coastline safe for boaters, paddlers, anglers, and visitors.

We’re grateful to work and train together so we are ready when it matters most.
