Recruit School 2026 – Week 7

Another week down, and our recruits are still hard at work!
This week focused on ventilation, fire extinguishers, and forcible entry! From learning how to remove heat and smoke from burning structures to properly using extinguishers and gaining entry into buildings during emergencies, our recruits continued building the skills they'll need on the fireground.
And in other news…
🚩 THEY STILL HAVE THEIR FLAG!
That's TWO weeks in a row! Maybe they've finally learned their lesson after its little international vacation… but there's still plenty of recruit school left!
Seven weeks down! On to Week 8!

Due to the potential for high winds associated with the cold front moving through our area this weekend, Ozark Fire & Rescue is temporarily suspending the issuance of burn permits. High winds can cause outdoor fires to spread quickly and become difficult to control. We will reassess weather conditions on Tuesday, October 20, and determine at that time whether burn permit issuance can resume.

We appreciate your cooperation.

We're officially ONE WEEK AWAY from our friendly blood drive competition between Ozark Police, Ozark Fire & Rescue, and Ozark EMS!

And while we certainly appreciate our friends over at OPD and OEMS… we wouldn't mind seeing Team OFD come out on top!

But here's where YOU come in!

On Tuesday, October 20, the LifeSouth Bloodmobile will be at the City of Ozark Municipal Complex from 9 AM–4 PM.

Come donate blood and be sure to let them know you're supporting OZARK FIRE & RESCUE!

All jokes aside, this competition is about something much bigger than winning. Blood donations are critical for trauma patients, surgeries, cancer treatments, and medical emergencies. As first responders, we know just how important it is to have blood available when someone needs it most.

Your donation could help save a life, and that's a win for EVERYONE!

📅 Tuesday, October 20
⏰ 9 AM–4 PM
📍 City of Ozark Municipal Complex
275 N. Union Ave.

So, Ozark… can we count on you to show up for Team OFD?!

And OPD and OEMS… may the best team win!

🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE – STAY OFF THE ROADS 🚨

Ozark Fire & Rescue is urging everyone to stay off the roads until conditions improve.

There are multiple reports of downed trees and power lines, along with several reported motor vehicle accidents throughout the area.

This storm is creating extremely dangerous conditions. Downed power lines pose a serious safety hazard, and additional debris and hazardous road conditions present a significant risk to motorists.

Do not travel unless absolutely necessary. If you encounter a downed power line, stay away and report it immediately. Never assume a downed line is safe.

Please take this warning seriously. Stay indoors and off the roads until it is safe to travel.

Your safety is always our priority, and we want to make sure you get the help you need as quickly as possible!
As we prepare for the approaching storm, we want to remind everyone that calling 911 in an emergency, rather than contacting our fire stations directly, is the safest and most effective way to get assistance. This ensures the appropriate personnel are dispatched to help you.
For non-emergencies, please call Ozark-Dale County E911 at 334-774-5111.
We're here for you, Ozark! Stay safe!

🚨 HURRICANE ISAIAS – FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE 🚨

Ozark Fire & Rescue is urging residents to take Hurricane Isaias seriously as the storm continues approaching the Gulf Coast.

As of the 10:00 AM update, Isaias has strengthened to a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 120 mph. Landfall is expected along the northern Gulf Coast later today.

Dale County remains under a Tropical Storm Warning, and our area could experience strong wind gusts, heavy rainfall, flash flooding, isolated tornadoes, and power outages as the storm moves inland.

If you haven't finished preparing, NOW is the time!

Secure any loose outdoor items.

Charge phones and other essential devices.

Have flashlights and emergency supplies ready.

Stay off the roads during dangerous weather conditions.

Never approach downed power lines or drive through flooded roadways.

Keep weather alerts turned on, especially overnight.

📞 IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ!

As we prepare for the possibility of increased emergency calls, we want to remind everyone of the proper way to request assistance.

🚨 FOR ALL EMERGENCIES, CALL 911!

DO NOT call our fire stations directly to report an emergency or request emergency assistance. Our personnel may be responding to calls, and contacting a station directly can delay getting you the help you need.

☎️ NON-EMERGENCY CALLS: Ozark-Dale County E911 – 334-774-5111

Please help us keep emergency lines available for those who need immediate assistance. If you have an emergency, do not hesitate to call 911.

Our crews are preparing and will remain ready to respond throughout the storm. We ask everyone to do their part by staying informed, taking necessary precautions, and avoiding unnecessary travel as conditions deteriorate.

Stay safe, Ozark!
