🚒🔥 And that’s a wrap on Fire Prevention Week! 🔥🚒

We had a great week visiting schools, connecting with students, and teaching our youngest community members important fire safety skills! From exploring the fire trucks to learning how to stay safe in an emergency, we’re proud to help build a safer community, one classroom at a time. ❤️

A big thank you to our local schools, teachers, and students for welcoming us!

Remember: Fire safety starts with YOU! 🧯🏠

🚨🔥 PLEASE DO NOT BURN! 🔥🚨

Firefighters across Christian County are currently responding to multiple emergencies, ranging from structure fires to large outdoor fires.

Current conditions are NOT suitable for open burning. Low humidity, dry vegetation, and high winds create dangerous conditions that allow fires to spread rapidly and quickly grow beyond your ability to control them.

We strongly encourage all residents to avoid outdoor burning until conditions improve.

Before conducting any outdoor burning, please check current weather conditions and contact your local fire district to verify burning restrictions and obtain any required authorization.

Our firefighters are working hard to protect lives and property throughout Christian County. Please do your part to prevent unnecessary emergencies and help keep our communities and first responders safe.

Be Fire Wise. Don’t Burn.

Thank you for helping us keep Christian County safe!

What a great evening for the annual Ozark Guns & Hoses Softball Game! 🚒🚓🥎

Thank you to everyone who came out to participate, cheer on the teams, and support this year’s event!

Not only did the Ozark Fire Protection District bring home the victory, but more importantly, it was a great evening of fun, fellowship, and friendly competition with our brothers and sisters in law enforcement at the Ozark Police Department - Ozark, Missouri.

Events like these remind us of the strong relationships we share as public safety professionals and the incredible community we are fortunate to serve.

Thank you again to everyone who helped make this event a success! OFPD Citizen's Fire Academy

Until next October, when we meet on the field once again to battle for the title! 🏆

Fire prevention looks different at different stages of life.

For older adults, mobility, hearing, vision, medications, and other factors may affect the ability to recognize or escape a fire.

Take time to plan ahead.

Make sure smoke alarms can be heard from sleeping areas.

Keep eyeglasses, mobility devices, phones, and other essential items within reach.

Keep exit paths clear and easy to navigate.

If someone may need assistance getting outside, include that assistance in the home's escape plan.

Caregivers and family members should also help test smoke alarms and identify hazards around the home.

Our Fire Prevention Week education may begin in the classroom, but fire safety is important at every age.

Phones. Tablets. Laptops. Earbuds. Gaming devices.

For teenagers and young adults, lithium-ion batteries are everywhere.

One of the most important lessons during Fire Prevention Week is learning how to charge them safely.

Do not charge your phone under your pillow or on your bed.

Do not continue using a battery that is swelling, damaged, unusually hot, leaking, or producing an unusual odor.

Use the charger designed or approved for the device.

Do not block an exit with a charging device.

When the device is fully charged, unplug it.

Safe charging is a small habit that can prevent a major emergency.

Our crews are reinforcing fire prevention messages with students throughout the community this week. Parents can help us by continuing those conversations at home.

Our Fire Prevention Week school visits continue today.

As students get older, we begin building on the basics by helping them understand what they can do if there is a fire in their home.

Every family should have a home fire escape plan.

Know two ways out when possible.
Keep exits clear.
Choose an outside family meeting place.
Once you are outside, stay outside.
Never go back inside for belongings or pets.

And most importantly — practice your plan.

Children should not be expected to develop an escape plan on their own. This is a family responsibility.

Tonight, ask your children what they learned at school and walk through your family's escape plan together.

Fire safety lessons work best when they continue at home.
