UPDATE - 11:39 a.m. October 10 - The damage report form is back online.

Hurricane Isaias Update #7 - Saturday, October 10

πŸ“„ Report Property Damage
Residents are asked to report property damage through the Santa Rosa County Property Appraiser's website. Search for your property by either name or street address at https://srcpa.gov/search and use the "Report Damage" button found under the "Owner Information section on your parcel page. If searching by street address, use abbreviations - Dr for Drive, St for Street, Blvd for Boulevard, etc.

‼️Citizen Information Line
The Santa Rosa County Citizen Information Line, 850-983-INFO (4636), is currently down due to connection issues. Staff are working on a solution as quickly as possible to restore the line. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

🚧 Road Closures
Majority of roads in Santa Rosa County are impassable due to down trees and/or power lines. Do not travel unless absolutely necessary. Crews are working as quickly as possible to clear roadways.

🦺 Safety Precautions During Recovery
As Santa Rosa County begins recovering from the impacts of Hurricane Isaias, residents are reminded that dangerous conditions remain after the storm. Downed power lines, flooding, damaged utility systems and other hazards can pose serious risks, even after weather conditions begin to improve.

Residents should follow guidance from local officials and take the following precautions to protect themselves and their families.

⚫️ Wait for official clearance.
Stay where you are until local authorities confirm it is safe to leave or return to your area. Follow updates from Santa Rosa County Emergency Management and other official sources before returning to evacuated areas.
⚫️ Stay away from downed power lines.
Treat all fallen, dangling or submerged power lines as live. Keep a safe distance and report downed lines to your utility provider. Never attempt to move or touch a power line.
⚫️ Standing water.
Never walk, swim or drive through standing or moving floodwater. Just 12 inches of rushing water can carry away a vehicle. Floodwaters may also conceal debris, sharp objects, downed electrical lines and sewage.
⚫️ Non-working traffic signals.
Drivers should treat intersections with non-working traffic signals as STOP signs in all directions, then proceed with caution.
⚫️ Chainsaw Safety.
Familiarize yourself with the safe operational procedures before attempting to use a chainsaw. Be sure that you are in top physical and mental condition when operating dangerous machinery. Medications and alcohol can cause you to be a hazard to yourself and others when working with chainsaws. Equip yourself with protective clothing and equipment including safety goggles, hearing protection, steel-toed shoes, hard hat, gloves, and close-fitting clothing. Never make cuts with the saw between your legs; always cut with the saw to the outside of your legs. Never position yourself or other people in line with the chain and keep the chain out of the dirt.
⚫️ Use generators and fuel-burning equipment safely.
Never operate portable generators, camp stoves or grills inside a home, garage or other enclosed space because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Generators should be placed outdoors at least 20 feet from homes and other structures, with exhaust directed away from doors, windows and vents.
⚫️ Use flashlights instead of candles.
Use flashlights or battery-powered lanterns for lighting. Avoid candles and other open flames, as damaged gas lines or other hazards may increase the risk of fire.
⚫️ Make sure drinking water is safe.
Do not assume tap water is safe to drink or use for cooking following storm impacts. Follow instructions from your water provider, including any boil water notices. Use bottled water or boil water as directed until officials confirm the water is safe. Contact utility providers for service issues.
⚫️ Utility updates.
Residents should contact their utility providers directly regarding power, water, internet and other service disruptions. Do not call 911 for utility service issues. The 911 system should be reserved for emergencies requiring immediate assistance.
⚫️ Santa Rosa County encourages residents to remain vigilant, check on neighbors when it is safe to do so, and continue monitoring official Emergency Management communication channels for the latest information and recovery guidance.

πŸš› Storm Debris Collection: What to Expect

Storm debris cleanup is a big job, and it takes time! As collection crews work through affected neighborhoods, here are a few important things to know:

πŸ”„ Expect multiple passes. Crews may visit your neighborhood several times throughout the collection process. If your debris isn't picked up on the first pass, don't assume you've been missed!

🌳 Different debris, different trucks. Collection trucks typically pick up only one type of debris at a time. Vegetative debris, such as tree limbs and branches, is collected separately from construction and demolition debris.

🚧 Crews are working throughout the community. Collection routes and schedules depend on debris volume, accessibility, safety and other operational factors.

🏑 Proper placement helps! Keep debris separated by type and place it in the designated public right-of-way, away from mailboxes, utility poles, fire hydrants and other obstacles.

πŸ’™ Thank you for your patience! Storm debris removal is a process, not a one-day event. Your cooperation helps crews work safely and efficiently as our community recovers.

🚨 PACE FIRE DISTRICT: GENERATOR & CARBON MONOXIDE SAFETY REMINDER 🚨

Pace Fire District has been responding to multiple calls throughout the night involving carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. With many residents relying on home generators, we want to remind everyone of the serious dangers associated with improper generator use.

⚠️ CARBON MONOXIDE IS A SILENT KILLER.

Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless, poisonous gas produced by generators and other fuel-burning equipment. You cannot see it, smell it, or taste it. Exposure can cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and, in severe cases, death.

πŸŒ™ WHY IS THIS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT?

While you are sleeping, you may not recognize the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. CO can build up inside your home if generator exhaust enters through windows, doors, vents, or other openings. You could become seriously ill or even die before realizing there is a problem.

πŸ”Œ PLEASE FOLLOW THESE GENERATOR SAFETY TIPS:

βœ… Use generators only when necessary and turn them off when they are no longer needed.

βœ… NEVER operate a generator inside your home, garage, carport, or any enclosed or partially enclosed space. Keep it outdoors, at least 20 feet away from your home, with exhaust directed away from all doors, windows, and vents.

βœ… Never run a generator overnight near your home while you sleep. Turning it off before bedtime is an additional precaution, but it does not replace proper placement and ventilation while it is running.

βœ… Make sure your carbon monoxide alarms are working. Install them on every level of your home and outside sleeping areas, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

🚨 IF YOUR CO ALARM SOUNDS:

* Get everyone, including pets, outside into fresh air immediately.
* Call 911 from outside the home.
* Do not re-enter until emergency personnel say it is safe.

Do not ignore a CO alarm, assume it is a false alarm, or simply silence it and go back to sleep.

We understand that many families are dealing with power outages and trying to keep their homes comfortable and safe. Our goal is to help everyone get through this safely.

Please share this message with your neighbors, friends, and family. A few simple precautions can save lives.

πŸš’ Sunday Update β€” Pace Fire Rescue District

Our fire crews are working throughout the district today, surveying storm damage and assisting with clearing roadways as needed. Crews are also addressing storm damage to our equipment and facilities as recovery efforts continue.

⚠️ Portable Generator Safety Reminder

If you are using a portable generator during a power outage:

Operate it outdoors only, at least 20 feet from homes and buildings, with exhaust directed away from doors, windows, and vents.

Never run a generator inside a home, garage, shed, or on a porch, even with doors and windows open.

Use working carbon monoxide alarms with battery backup on every level of your home and outside sleeping areas.

Turn the generator off and allow it to cool before refueling.

Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas you cannot see or smell. If your CO alarm sounds, or you experience headache, dizziness, nausea, or weakness while using a generator, get everyone outside into fresh air immediately and call 911.

Thank you for your patience and support as our personnel continue working to help our community recover. Please give crews room to work and keep safety first.

If you live in a low-lying area, NOW is the time to leave. Follow evacuation instructions and move to a safer location while travel remains safe.
