Somebody throttled mission-critical military communications upon which Ukraine relies for its survival.

Either President Trump ordered it, or Elon Musk independently made life-and-death national security decisions.

In either case, lives were lost. Both possibilities raise urgent questions. I’m demanding answers.

A letter demanding an investigation indicates Democrats will make investigating Starlink's interruption a top priority if they win control of the U.S. House.

Abandoning Afghan allies who risked their lives to support US troops in Afghanistan betrays the honor of our women and men in uniform. Jason Crow and I introduced a bipartisan bill to restore and extend temporary protective status for tens of thousands Afghan nationals and their families.

I will push to force a floor vote on the bill in November.

Many more injustices need to be righted in this Administration’s approach to immigration, but until January, I’ll keep pushing for those opportunities available with bipartisan support.

El Niño will likely bring heavy rain, flooding, and severe storms across the Bay Area this winter. Preparing now can help protect your family and home.

Take four simple steps before the next storm:

1. Sign up for emergency alerts.

San Mateo County: https://www.smcgov.org/dem/smc-alert

Santa Clara County: https://oem.santaclaracounty.gov/sign-up-for-alerts

2. Know your flood risk. Check your address on FEMA's flood map: https://msc.fema.gov/portal/search

3. Clear your gutters. Remove leaves and debris before heavy rain hits.

4. Stock an emergency kit. Keep water, food, flashlights, batteries, and essential medications handy.

A little preparation now can prevent a lot of trouble later.

Whether you are in a high risk zone or not, you may need flood insurance because most homeowners insurance doesn't cover flood damage. If you live in an area with low or moderate flood risk, you are 5 times more likely to experience flood than a fire in your home over the next 30 years. For many, a....

Happy Italian Heritage Month!

to my 2016 visit with the late Tony Paradiso, who celebrated his retirement running Paradiso’s Deli.

Tony’s family ran the deli (and previously, grocery store) on Auzerais St. when many Italian- and Mexican-American workers–including my relatives–stopped by between shifts at the nearby Del Monte cannery.

Paradiso’s site has been reincarnated as Palermo Italian Restaurant, a wonderful Sicilian restaurant run by Diane and Renato Cusimano, continuing the tradition of great food and community.

Thank you to the Alzheimer's Association & Alzheimer's Association Northern California advocates who joined me in Palo Alto to share their personal stories and experiences.

These conversations remind us why investing in research, early detection, and support for caregivers is so important. Special thanks to Bart and Nancy Westcott and Kate Kriner helping make this happen.

Enjoyed a wonderful quinceanera at the 15th annual Silicon Valley Latino Leadership Summit in Mountain View, celebrating the achievement of 16 students from Cristo Rey San Jose who earned scholarships for their outstanding work.

Thank you to Frank & Molly Carbajal for many years of bringing our community together to celebrate Latino success and support the ganas of our youth. Our local Latino community continues to be a beacon to our troubled nation of the extraordinary power and promise of diversity.

Meet Tinkerbell, the 2026 Prettiest Pumpkin! She weighs a delicate 293 pounds, and proud grower Vince Zunino hails from Los Altos Hills.

I love that they named this category after my friend and coastsider Joe Cotchett.

And congratulations to Half Moon Bay’s own Tom McGuirk, whose 352-pound pumpkin took home the title of heaviest Coastside-grown pumpkin!

Congratulations to competitors from near and far who participated in the Half Moon Bay World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off.
