๐ŸŒง๏ธ Prepare for El Niรฑo Storms: Protect Your Home & Get Your Sandbags Early!

El Niรฑo storms can bring heavy rain, strong winds, flooding, and stormwater runoff. Now is the time for Pacifica residents to prepare their homes and families before the next storm arrives.

๐Ÿ  STEPS TO PREPARE YOUR HOME

โœ… Clear gutters and downspouts
Remove leaves, debris, and other blockages so rainwater can flow freely.

โœ… Check storm drains near your property
Keep drains and drainage areas clear of leaves and debris. Never place debris in the roadway or block a storm drain.

โœ… Inspect your roof
Look for damaged or missing shingles, tiles, flashing, or other areas that may allow water to enter.

โœ… Secure outdoor items
Bring in or secure patio furniture, umbrellas, trash cans, decorations, and other loose items that could be blown around by strong winds.

โœ… Check doors and windows
Make sure they close properly and check for areas where water could enter.

โœ… Protect vulnerable areas
Use sandbags or other appropriate barriers around areas where stormwater could enter your home, garage, or other structures.

Detective Struck by Vehicle During Retail Theft Spree. One Arrested, One Sought.

On July 9, 2026, at 4:44 p.m., officers were dispatched to a theft in progress at the Safeway on Hickey Blvd. Witnesses provided a suspect description and the vehicle's license plate as it fled the parking lot.

Within minutes, an automated license plate reader (ALPR) captured the same plate near West Manor Drive and Palmetto Ave. The first officer to arrive, a detective, found the two suspects running from a second Safeway after reportedly committing another theft.

When the detective attempted to detain one of the suspects, she struck him with her car and fled. While the detective was on the ground, the second suspect ran to the vehicle and fled the area. The detective sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

A later ALPR capture placed the vehicle near Highway 35 and Sharp Park Rd., where officers found the car abandoned. Inside was thousands of dollars in property stolen from both Pacifica Safeway locations and a Pacifica Walgreens.

Lia Kaulave, 21, of San Francisco was arrested on a warrant for felony organized retail theft and grand theft. Kaulave is currently on San Mateo County probation for a prior theft and was also booked for violating her probation (pictured right).

Karakia Williams, 21, of Antioch, remains outstanding, with an active warrant for assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, organized retail theft, grand theft, two counts of theft with prior theft convictions, and resisting a peace officer (pictured left).

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Pacifica Police Department at 650-738-7314 or the Silent Witness Tip Line at 650-359-4444. Please refer to case 26-1645.
