The Putnam Republican Club is grateful for the swift and courageous response of the United States Secret Service, White House Police, and all law enforcement officers who acted quickly during today’s dangerous incident near the White House.

We offer our prayers for the innocent bystander who was wounded, for all those placed in harm’s way, and for the officers who stand watch every day to protect our nation’s leaders and institutions.

We also pray for those who are struggling mentally, emotionally, or spiritually — that they receive help before pain, anger, or confusion turns into violence.

Political disagreement is part of our republic. Violence is not. Threats are not. Hatred is not.

We must all do our part to lower the temperature, choose our words carefully, and remember that rhetoric has consequences.
