The Palmetto Police Department’s Citizen’s Academy began on August 13th and was held every Thursday through September 17th. We graduated six participants! 👏🎓

The academy was taught by Palmetto Police Department officers and detectives. Attendees learned about all facets of police department operations, including Florida police officer standards, training, discipline, officer safety, and the use of force.

One of the most popular nights was mock traffic stops! Attendees learned how to conduct stops safely, donned police gear, and ran their own mock traffic stops.

Stay tuned for dates and registration information for our next Citizen’s Police Academy!

It’s that spooky time of year again! As you make your Halloween plans, keep these safety reminders in mind to help make the night fun and safe for everyone.

🕸️ Dress for safety: Choose costumes that allow children to see clearly and add reflective tape or glow sticks to help them stay visible after dark.

🍬 Trick-or-treat smart: Young children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult. Older children should stay in familiar, well-lit areas, use a planned route, and never enter a stranger’s home or vehicle. Wait until you’re home to enjoy those treats!

🚗 Drivers, slow down: Watch carefully for children in roadways, medians, and along curbs, especially around dusk and after dark. Take extra care when entering or exiting driveways and alleys.

Have fun, stay visible, and look out for one another this Halloween! 🎃
