We will NOT call anyone demanding any type of payment such as this. If you receive this call, please just hang up and/or Ignore this call. Today, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office joins our nation in remembering the events of September 11, 2001.

We honor the 2,977 lives lost, the first responders who courageously ran toward danger, and the countless men and women whose lives were forever changed that day. We also remember the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and unity shown by Americans in the days and months that followed.

May we never forget those we lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the families who continue to carry their memory.

On Sunday afternoon, staff at the Marion County Jail noticed that the air conditioning system was not keeping up with the extreme heat. We immediately contacted our HVAC contractor, who responded and was on-site within a couple of hours to assess the issue.

It was determined that the main compressor for the air conditioning unit had failed. A replacement compressor was immediately ordered, and repairs will be completed as soon as the necessary equipment arrives.

In the meantime, we have taken several measures to help keep the jail as comfortable as possible. Fans were already available in each housing pod to assist with air circulation, and additional fans have been purchased and placed throughout the jail. Staff are also providing pitchers of ice water to the housing pods multiple times throughout the day, in addition to the drinking water that is continuously available to those housed in the facility.

At this time, all individuals incarcerated at the Marion County Jail are doing well, and staff will continue to monitor conditions while repairs are underway.

We understand that the current conditions are uncomfortable, particularly given the extreme outdoor temperatures. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work to have the air conditioning system repaired as quickly as possible.
