Did you know Mark’s Pizzeria got its start inside the Garlock House?

In a 2012 interview, Mark Crane shared that his first pizza operation began right here at the Garlock House in 1982, with help from then-owner Tony LaPietra and Mark’s uncle, Frank Tantello.

And his very first day?
He sold just one pizza — for $3.26.

Before long, Mark was selling 50Ā¢ slices to people coming through the Garlock House, getting to know the Palmyra community and experimenting with the recipes that would eventually become part of Mark’s Pizzeria.

Less than a year later, he moved across the street — and the business continued to grow from there.

It’s pretty incredible to think that a business so many people know today had its beginnings in just a small space inside this house. ā¤ļø

What a fun piece of Garlock history! ā¤ļø

Historic Palmyra recently shared this old Garlock menu, and we just had to pass it along. It’s such a wonderful glimpse back at a time when so many people gathered here for meals, celebrations, and special occasions.

We love seeing pieces of the house’s past resurface as we work toward its next chapter.

Do you remember eating at Garlock? What was your favorite thing on the menu?

INSIDE THE GARLOCK HOUSE šŸ”āœØ
Drywall Complete • Floors & Trim Underway

Last week marked a big milestone at the Garlock House with the drywall officially completed, which means we’ve been able to move right into the next exciting phase—floors and interior trim!

It’s exciting to finally see some of the finishing details begin to take shape. There’s still plenty of work ahead, but with each step, the warmth and character of this beautiful old house are starting to come back to life.

We know many of you have been patiently waiting for a peek inside, so we’re excited to finally share a little progress! ā¤ļø

More to come as the transformation continues…

A little more progress at Garlock House… and this time, we’re moving some dirt! šŸ¤Ž

Excavation is underway outside as we begin preparing an area that will eventually become part of Garlock Grove.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, and we’re keeping a few of the details under wraps for now, but it’s exciting to finally see this part of our vision beginning to take shape.

Our hope is to create beautiful outdoor spaces that feel like they’ve always belonged here — places to gather, celebrate, and enjoy this special property.

We can’t wait to share more as it comes together. 🌿

šŸ”Ø A Garlock House Shout-Out!

Today we want to give a very special shout-out to Al Palcini, who has been responsible for all of the masonry work here at Garlock House.

Al isn’t just a wonderful craftsman—he’s also a longtime friend, which makes having him be part of this project even more special. His skill, attention to detail, and pride in his work can be seen throughout the property, and we couldn’t be more appreciative of everything he has done.

When you’re bringing a place with this much history back to life, having talented people you know and trust working alongside you means so much.

Thank you, Al, for your friendship, your craftsmanship, and for being such an important part of the Garlock House transformation. ā¤ļø

And Al’s work at Garlock House isn’t finished just yet… we have something pretty exciting planned for the next chapter, and he’ll be right there with us. šŸ˜‰

We’re not quite ready to share the details—but stay tuned. There’s much more to come at Garlock House.

This Day in Garlock History šŸ•°ļø

On September 6, 1904 — exactly 122 years ago today — Olin J. Garlock of Palmyra was granted U.S. Patent No. 769,684 for an improvement in rod-packing used in machinery.

It’s pretty amazing to think that while O.J. Garlock was living here in Palmyra, ideas bearing his name were being patented and helping build a company that would become known far beyond our little village.

Today, 122 years later, we’re working to preserve another part of his legacy — the home that still bears his name.

We thought today was the perfect day to share a look at O.J. Garlock’s original 1904 patent drawings.

A little piece of Garlock history, exactly 122 years later. ā¤ļø

🌹 Did You Know? A Little Garlock History…

The beautiful grounds surrounding the Garlock House didn’t always look the way many remember them.

As O.J. Garlock expanded his estate, he purchased neighboring properties around his home. Historical accounts tell us that the nearby Townsend/Truax property was purchased specifically ā€œto be made into a flower garden.ā€ Another neighboring home, once belonging to the Rogers/Cady family, was later torn down as Garlock expanded and improved his grounds.

Garlock continued acquiring property along Clinton Street — so much that one early Palmyra historian wrote that he eventually owned ā€œnearly all the street.ā€

Those grounds would later become known for the Garlock House’s beautiful gardens, including its famous illuminated rose gardens. 🌹

It’s amazing to imagine how different this corner of Palmyra once looked — and how O.J. Garlock helped shape it into the estate people would remember for generations.

Another little piece of Garlock history we’re excited to share. ā¤ļø

GARLOCK: THEN & NOW šŸ•°ļø

We noticed something on the back of this old Bus Blum’s Garlock House postcard that we hadn’t realized before…

ā€œOvernight Accommodations.ā€ ā¤ļø

Along with gracious dining, weddings, banquets and private parties, Garlock once welcomed guests to stay overnight.

We love discovering that as we give Garlock its next chapter, we’re also bringing back a little piece of what it once was — a place to stay, gather and celebrate.

The property has certainly changed over the years, but that beautiful old house is still here, and we’re working hard to preserve as much of its character as we can.

And we’d love your help with that…

Do you remember any of the little details inside Garlock?
The colors, chandeliers, wallpaper, woodwork, artwork, furniture — anything that made the house feel like Garlock?

You never know… one of those details may just find its way into its next chapter. ā¤ļø

GARLOCK RENOVATION UPDATE šŸ”šŸ–¤

A few more pieces of Garlock are coming back to life…

After several weeks of scraping, prepping and painting, the exterior is really starting to take shape! All of the new windows are in, the exterior painting is nearly complete, and the doors have gone black. We still have trim work to finish and a final coat to put on the doors, but we couldn’t wait to share the progress!

We also tackled the porch ceilings. The old painted wood still showed evidence of the 1965 fire, so seeing the newly finished ceilings has made quite a transformation.

Another big change was removing the large existing wheelchair ramp. It will be replaced with a new electronic accessibility ramp, allowing us to maintain handicap accessibility while opening up the exterior and porch area.

And sometimes the best part of renovating an old house is what you uncover along the way. We were able to salvage a beautiful older light fixture we discovered during the renovation. We don’t know its exact history, but we loved it enough to make sure it stayed with the house. And beneath layers of paint, we uncovered beautiful leaded glass that had been hidden away.

We may not know the full story behind every piece we find, but whenever we can preserve something special, we will. ā¤ļø

Little by little, Garlock is revealing itself again.
