The CCAO has stated the 2025 Exemption applications will be available online beginning March 9, 2026.
The hours for the application intake at the Palos Township location is M-F 9:00-12:00 and 2:00-4:00. There are no appointments as there is a sign in sheet in the main lobby with a walk- in/sign-in process. This allows time for the applications to be entered and correspondence to be returned to residents.
For residents that had the Low Income 'Senior Freeze' or the Disabled Veterans exemptions the previous year (tax year 2024 in year 2025) then those Renewal applications will be mailed out mid March. Please wait until you receive the renewal before coming in for assistance. (The due date is April 21,2026).
If you need assistance with the "Senior Freeze" then please bring your 2024 Income Taxes (Federal 1040) and your Driver's License or ID.
Please see the following link for what documentation or forms you will need if you are applying for other exemptions or for the first time. https://www.cookcountyassessoril.gov/exemptions

‼️ 2025 First Installment Property tax bills online now at cookcountytreasurer.com
Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas will mail nearly 1.8 million Tax Year 2025 First Installment property tax bills by March 2. Payments are due Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
But if you want the peace of mind that comes from paying early, you can make payments online beginning Friday, Feb. 20.
“Each year more and more people use our website to pay their property tax bills online,” said Pappas. “People like the convenience of paying online and not having to come downtown to pay in person or write a check and pay for postage.”
To make a payment online, visit cookcountytreasurer.com and follow these steps:
Select the blue box labeled “Pay Online for Free.”
Enter your address or 14-digit Property Index Number (PIN).
A picture of your property should appear so you’ll know you’re paying the correct bill. There’s no fee to pay online from your bank account. The Treasurer’s Office accepts partial payments, but First Installment taxes must be paid in full by 11:59 p.m. April 1, to avoid a state-mandated late charge of 0.75 percent a month.
The First Installment is 55% of the previous year's total tax. Exemptions are applied to the Second Installment due later this year.

MAILING AND DUE DATES FOR FIRST INSTALLMENT TAX BILLS EXTENDED BY A MONTH
Contact: PALOS TOWNSHIP ASSESSOR’S OFFICE, 708-598-4418
Ordinarily, first installment tax bills are mailed around the first of February and are due on March 1. This year, however, the bills will not be mailed until early March and will be due on April 1.
The state legislature enacted this one-time-only extension to give taxpayers more time between tax bill payments. The due date for last year’s second installment bills should have been on August 1, 2025, but was delayed to December 15 because of problems with Cook County’s new computer system.
If the legislature had not acted, there would have been just two and a half months between tax bill due dates. Robert Maloney, along with his colleagues in the Cook County Township Assessors Association, felt that this short gap between tax bills would have caused financial hardship for many. So, the assessors association advocated for an extension with Senate President Don Harmon’s office. Officers from Cook County agencies worked on the same issue with members of the Illinois House.
On the final day of the legislature’s fall veto session, lawmakers worked late into the night. At 3:30 AM, they unanimously approved the one-month extension of the due date for first installment property tax bills.
