Awareness is an important part of creating safer communities. When we are willing to talk openly about sexual violence, recognize warning signs, and understand the resources available, we help break down stigma and make it easier for survivors to reach out for support.

These conversations also remind survivors that they are seen, heard, and believed. The more our community knows, the better equipped we are to support survivors and work together toward prevention.

Sexual violence affects people of every gender, yet the experiences of male survivors are often overlooked. Recognizing that men can also be victims is an important step toward breaking stigma and ensuring every survivor feels seen, supported, and encouraged to seek help when they're ready.

No one should have to face the effects of sexual assault alone. By raising awareness and fostering compassionate conversations, we can create a community where all survivors know they will be believed, respected, and connected to the resources they deserve.

Children and adults who have experienced sexual abuse or assault may respond in very different ways. Changes in behavior, mood, relationships, routines, or feelings of safety can sometimes signal that something is wrong, but there is no single way a survivor will act.

Knowing what to look for helps us respond with compassion, listen without judgment, and connect someone with support when they need it.

Awareness matters. Support matters. Believing survivors matters.

Trauma-focused therapy is not only for moments of crisis. Survivors may seek support at any point in their healing journey, whether an experience happened recently or years ago, or they simply feel ready to work through how trauma continues to affect their life.

Therapy can provide a supportive space to better understand emotions, develop healthy coping skills, rebuild a sense of safety, and continue moving forward at a pace that feels right for each survivor.

Every person who speaks up, listens, learns, or stands beside a survivor helps create meaningful change. When survivors feel heard and supported without judgment, we help build a culture where their experiences are respected and their voices matter.

Compassion can be one of the most powerful forms of support we offer. By listening with patience, believing survivors, and respecting their choices, we can strengthen a movement centered on dignity, healing, and hope.

Community education is one of the most powerful tools we have to prevent sexual violence and support survivors. When people understand topics like consent, healthy relationships, warning signs, and how to respond to a disclosure, they are better equipped to create safer environments and support those who may need help.

Education empowers communities to replace myths with facts, reduce stigma, and encourage meaningful conversations. Together, we can build a culture where survivors are believed, prevention is prioritized, and everyone has a role in creating a safer future.

Many survivors never report sexual assault, and there are countless reasons someone may choose not to come forward. Fear of not being believed, concerns about what happens next, stigma, or simply not feeling ready can all play a role. No survivor should be judged for the choices they make after experiencing trauma.

Whether an assault is reported or not, survivors still deserve compassion, resources, and support. Our advocates are here to listen, respect each survivor’s choices, and help them understand their options when they are ready.

Trauma can affect the way memories are stored and recalled. A survivor may remember certain details clearly while struggling with others, or they may recall events in a different order over time. This does not mean their experience did not happen.

There is no single "right" way for someone to remember or talk about a traumatic experience. Responding with patience, compassion, and an understanding of trauma helps create an environment where survivors feel safe, heard, and supported.

Sexual assault impacts our communities every day, and the number of reported cases is only part of the story. Many survivors never come forward for a variety of deeply personal reasons, which is why raising awareness, reducing stigma, and making support accessible are so important.

Behind every statistic is a person who deserves compassion, respect, and the opportunity to heal. By fostering a community that believes survivors and encourages open conversations, we can help ensure that anyone affected by sexual violence knows they are not alone and that support is available whenever they're ready.
