Tonight on senior night, the Gretna East Griffins hosted the Gross Catholic Cougars for a seven p.m. football kickoff. The weather was windy and brisk.

It was a historic evening as Gretna East proudly celebrated just the third senior class in school history.

Both football teams and cheer squads showed tremendous community spirit by raising awareness for cancer with a beautiful pink out display, completed by pink pom-poms on the sidelines.

On the field, Gretna East put together a commanding performance from start to finish, ultimately securing a decisive victory to top off a memorable senior night. City of Gretna, NE EventsCity of Gretna, NebraskaGretna Fire DepartmentSarpy County, NebraskaSarpy Scanner

What an incredible day at the Henry Doorly Zoo! The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office was honored to join our law enforcement partners and their amazing canine teams for a special event focused on supporting zoo staff, serving the community, and showcasing the important work these incredible dogs do every day.

We are grateful to the zoo for inviting our teams to be part of this experience and for recognizing the value these dogs bring through emotional support, stress relief, trauma support, and community outreach.

When time allows, the teams may even get the opportunity to work on some distraction training in this unique environment!

Meet the incredible teams who were part of today’s event.

Tater is a black Labrador Retriever who serves as a facility and service dog with the Bellevue Police Department. Alongside Officer John Hobbs, Tater helps individuals dealing with stress, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder while also supporting community outreach.

Officer Ashley Meyers and her certified therapy Goldendoodle provide emotional support during traumatic events and make visits to schools and libraries. The dog’s name honors a fallen trooper, serving as a meaningful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve and protect.

Henry, our very own Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office Golden Retriever, is a trained therapy dog who works alongside Lead Chaplain Jeff Kaiser.

Henry provides emotional comfort, stress relief, and trauma support to law enforcement personnel, dispatchers, jail staff, and members of our local community.

Tucker, a black Labrador and Boxer mix, works alongside Jason Workman, Lead Chaplain for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and a licensed therapist. Together, they bring another valuable resource to those who may need support during difficult times.

These dogs are so much more than companions. They are a source of comfort, connection, and healing for people experiencing some of life’s most challenging moments.

Their work reminds us that sometimes the greatest support comes with four paws and a wagging tail.

A huge thank-you to the Henry Doorly Zoo for welcoming our teams and providing this wonderful opportunity. We appreciate the partnerships that allow us to serve, support one another, and strengthen our community in meaningful ways.

We are proud of our teams, grateful for our partners, and always honored to serve our community!Bellevue (Nebraska) Police DepartmentSarpy County, NebraskaCity of Bellevue, NebraskaShadow Lake Towne CenterOmaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and AquariumPapillion Police Department
