🚨 THE WORLD GOES ON THE AIR THIS WEEKEND.

The CQ World Wide DX Contest (SSB) is here, and the HF bands stop being quiet and start sounding like the whole world showed up at once.

If you have ever wanted to work new countries, test your station, improve your operating, or finally see what contest weekend feels like, this is it.

Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. W7RPT is the only ARRL Special Service and Contest Club in Las Vegas, and we are challenging our members and friends to get on the air, make contacts, and help put Las Vegas on the scoreboard.

Contest period:
Starts Friday, October 23 at 5:00 PM PT (Saturday, October 24 at 12:00 AM UTC)
Ends Sunday, October 25 at 4:59 PM PT (Sunday, October 25 at 11:59 PM UTC)

Bands:
160, 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters

Exchange:
On SSB, the exchange is simple: signal report plus CQ Zone.
For operators in Southern Nevada, that usually means sending 59 03.

Examples:
If someone calls you, you might respond:
“W7RPT, you’re 59 03”

If you call another station, you might hear:
“59 14”
or
“59 25”

That’s it. You give the other station a signal report and your CQ Zone, and they do the same.

You do not need a massive station to take part. You do not need to operate all 48 hours. You do not need to be a seasoned contester.

You do need to get on before Sunday night so you don't hear about the DX that everyone else worked.

Make contacts. Submit your log. Represent Sin City.

WE DON’T JUST TALK ABOUT AMATEUR RADIO. WE BUILD IT.

Members of the Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. W7RPT were back at one of our repeater sites today doing what this club was built to do: putting equipment on the air and expanding real amateur radio infrastructure in Southern Nevada.

Today’s work included reinstalling our UHF repeater following a series of enhancements, along with returning a 900 MHz repeater to the site that had been removed nearly 15 years ago.

That means another piece of amateur radio infrastructure is being brought back to life.

The work party included Dan W7IVK, Chris KI7VLP, Gio K7GIO, and Ian K6IBX. These are the people climbing into sites, moving equipment, solving problems, rebuilding systems, and making sure there is something on the air for the rest of the amateur radio community to actually use.

This is what the Sin City Repeater Group is about.

Our mission is clear:

“Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. is the Las Vegas ham radio club for operators who want to learn, operate, build, and contribute. As an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit amateur radio organization serving Las Vegas and Southern Nevada, SCRG advances amateur radio and STEM education through hands-on technical training, mentoring, responsible experimentation, public-service and emergency communications, operating activities, and the development and stewardship of reliable amateur radio repeater infrastructure.”

Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. W7RPT is organized as a Nevada Chapter 82 nonprofit educational corporation and is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Repeaters do not install themselves. Sites do not maintain themselves. Infrastructure does not improve because somebody talked about it at a meeting.

People have to show up and do the work.

That is exactly what our members are doing.

We are always looking to add a few good hams who want to learn, operate, build, contribute, and become part of what we are creating in Southern Nevada.

Think you belong here?

📻 **There's a place for you at the Sin City Repeater Group!**

Whether you've been a licensed amateur radio operator for 30 years, just got your first call sign, or are simply curious about getting started in ham radio, we'd love to meet you!

At Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. W7RPT, we believe amateur radio is about more than equipment, antennas, and repeaters. It's about the people on the other end of the microphone, the friendships we build, and the knowledge we share along the way.

We're a growing community of radio enthusiasts across Las Vegas, Henderson, and Southern Nevada who enjoy getting on the air, helping each other learn, experimenting with technology, and having a good time.

Some of us love building and maintaining repeaters. Others enjoy HF, digital modes, public service, or simply having a great conversation on the radio. There's room for all of those interests here.

And if you're brand new? That's wonderful! We especially enjoy helping new operators get comfortable with their radios and make their first few contacts. We have a program for ham radio licensee aspirants and brand-new hams, and we don't assume you already have a radio, a license, know how to program it, or have the courage to key up on a net. We'll help you through DMs, email, and a rookie favorite — Zoom.

You don't have to know everything, own expensive equipment, or have years of experience to get acquainted with us. Just bring your curiosity, a friendly attitude, and an interest in amateur radio.

We recently updated our website and membership information, and we'd like to personally invite anyone interested in becoming part of our community.

Don't know anyone in the group yet? That's perfectly fine. Reach out, introduce yourself, and let's get acquainted!

We also welcome visitors to Las Vegas and amateur radio operators from outside Southern Nevada. We even offer a complimentary membership category for eligible operators living outside Clark County.

Come for the radio. Stay for the friendships.

W7RPT and NA7LV Partner for Trunk-or-Treat Community Outreach and W1AW/7 Activation

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA | October 30, 2026

Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. W7RPT and NA7LV Mabuhay DX Nevada are partnering for a special evening of Amateur Radio, community service, and public outreach during a Trunk-or-Treat Ham Radio Demonstration on Friday, October 30.

As part of the event, Sin City Repeater Group will operate W1AW/7 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM as part of the ARRL Year of the Club, offering a special HF operating opportunity and hands-on outreach to families and community members.

The public demonstration will showcase the service and technical sides of Amateur Radio, including radio communications, antennas, emergency and public-service communications, STEM, and the many ways amateur operators experiment, learn, and serve their communities.

The Trunk-or-Treat portion of the event will run approximately 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Members of both organizations will be on hand starting at 5 PM to demonstrate equipment, answer questions, distribute candy, and introduce visitors to Amateur Radio in a welcoming, family-friendly environment.

Experienced HF operators from both clubs are also needed to help keep W1AW/7 active throughout the evening, particularly those comfortable managing pileups. Additional volunteers are welcome to assist with station setup, public demonstrations, greeting families, and community outreach.

This joint event reflects a shared commitment by Sin City Repeater Group and NA7LV Mabuhay DX Nevada to strengthen Amateur Radio through cooperation, technical experimentation, public service, and developing the next generation of operators.

Amateur Radio is more than making contacts. On October 30, W7RPT and NA7LV will put that idea into practice by bringing operating, service, education, and community together in one event.

SIN CITY REPEATER GROUP RECOGNIZED AS AN ARRL SPECIAL SERVICE CLUB

Las Vegas, Nevada, October 5, 2026

The Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. W7RPT is proud to announce that the American Radio Relay League has recognized SCRG as an ARRL Special Service Club.

Special Service Club recognition reflects a sustained commitment to advancing Amateur Radio through new-ham development, public relations, emergency and public-service communications, technical advancement, operating activities, and community involvement.

For SCRG, the recognition reflects both where the organization has been and where it is headed.

Sin City Repeater Group began in 2014 as a loose association of friends and Amateur Radio operators. After formally incorporating on December 31, 2025, the organization entered a period of rapid development and expansion. Today, SCRG supports an increasingly diverse community of operators throughout Las Vegas and Southern Nevada while developing repeater infrastructure, technical programs, mentoring opportunities, public outreach, and operating activities.

“This recognition reflects what our members have built together and the organization we have worked intentionally to create,” said founding President Bill Freeman N4NJJ. “Our growth from 19 to 60 members in under 60 days matters, but the more important achievement is building the systems, leadership, technical capacity, and culture necessary to sustain that growth. We are creating an organization where people can learn, contribute, lead, and serve their community.”

During 2026, SCRG members participated in ARRL Field Day, provided communications for the Silver State Car Classic, conducted Amateur Radio and STEM outreach for approximately 55 Civil Air Patrol cadets, and operated from the KXNT-AM broadcast facility at the invitation of Audacy Las Vegas Chief Engineer Tracy Teagarden before the station’s towers were demolished. Two SCRG members made their first-ever HF contacts during the KXNT operation.

The organization also conducted two major K7F special event operations. The K7F Garcés Expedition generated 2,411 QSOs, worked all 50 U.S. states, reached 53 DXCC entities, and operated across eight bands and three modes. The K7F Saint Maximilian Kolbe special event generated another 1,525 QSOs, reaching 31 DXCC entities, 49 states, and all six inhabited continents.

During Saint Maximilian Kolbe week, SCRG also established an educational Amateur Radio station at Saint Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Las Vegas, where members demonstrated HF communications, digital modes, antennas, equipment configuration, and practical operating techniques.

SCRG continues to invest heavily in technical education and infrastructure. Its extended technical footprint includes VHF, UHF, and 900 MHz systems using analog FM, AllStar, DMR, and P25 technologies. Members also provide hands-on assistance with radio programming, equipment configuration, antennas, networking, troubleshooting, and new-operator development.

The club’s work continues. Upcoming activities include additional Las Vegas-area repeater installations, a Radio Programming Palooza, community Trunk-or-Treat outreach, participation in the ARRL November Sweepstakes SSB contest, and a family-oriented Talk With Santa Amateur Radio event.

ARRL Special Service Club recognition is not an endpoint for SCRG. It represents an expectation to continue serving, teaching, experimenting, operating, and building.
To every member who has installed equipment, programmed a radio, mentored a new operator, worked a special event, participated in public service, supported an outreach activity, or simply welcomed someone new to Amateur Radio, this recognition belongs to you.

It's a radioactive Saturday here in Sin City. Several members of the Las Vegas Ham Radio Club, the Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. W7RPT, are on the air this weekend. One of our General class members is running the club call with a few others and just hit the Dixie Amateur Radio Club - DARC), which is running their special event station on 40m. Go give these guys a shout if you can. What special radio activity are you doing this weekend?

Our Newsletter Editor Mike DiTurno KC8OWL, formerly of Henderson, Nevada, made a pretty awesome pledge to the Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. W7RPT: three brand-new Icom portables for the first three cadets who earn their amateur radio licenses.

Today, while Mike was back in Las Vegas on business, he met up with W7RPT founding president Bill N4NJJ to make the handoff. Three radios, ready and waiting for three new hams to earn their tickets and get on the air.

And because apparently two Sin City Repeater Group members cannot meet outdoors without affecting the local weather, it rained. Again. What is it with this club and rain?

A huge thank-you to Mike for everything he does for W7RPT, both behind the scenes as our newsletter editor and through his investment in the next generation of amateur radio operators. This is how the hobby grows: someone opens the door, puts a radio in a new operator’s hand, and says, “Now get on the air.”

And yes, the Icoms are being transported in an ALDI bag. Please spare us the rainbow jokes. We already know. 😂

Now we just need three cadets to pass those exams.
