Camp POSTCARD 2026 was another unforgettable week! ☀️
Earlier this month, Officer Holli Smith from Norway PD, along with Officer Jillian Douglas and Officer Tim Holland from Paris Pd, attended Camp POSTCARD (Police Officers Striving to Create and Reinforce Dreams). Officer Holland helped to ensure kids had a great time fishing, while Officer Smith and Officer Douglas taught kids how to make key chains and bracelets out of Paracord, which is always a favorite at Camp.
Camp POSTCARD is a free, week-long summer experience for Maine 5th and 6th graders. Campers are nominated by officers or school counselors, and the program is led by volunteer First Responders from across the state who serve as camp leaders guiding and mentoring kids and serve as positive role models throughout the week.
Each June, over 100 children from all 16 Maine counties, gather at Camp Mechuwana in Winthrop for an unforgettable week filled with making memories, building friendships, and having fun—including six of our Rowe school kids and six of our Oxford elementary kids, who joined the adventure!
At the conclusion of the week, law enforcement leaders from around the state—including sheriffs, chiefs, and command staff—served lunch to the campers before the awards ceremony.
One of the most meaningful moments of the ceremony is the presentation of the Deputy Luke Gross Award, which recognizes the camper who demonstrates exceptional growth, compassion, and leadership throughout the week. The late Deputy Luke Gross dedicated many summers to volunteering at Camp POSTCARD prior to his passing in 2021.
This year’s recipient was a camper from right here in Oxford Hills.
Thank you to everyone who volunteers their time, energy, and support to make Camp POSTCARD such a meaningful experience for Maine’s youth.
We all had a blast! ❤️🚔
