***SCAM ALERT***

Good morning. In the last hour or so we have heard from a number of citizens that reported receiving a phone call from our department phone number 715-762-2446. This even happened to a city employee a few minutes ago. The caller tells the person they have a warrant and provides directions on how to address the matter. This is a scam, and an attempt to obtain your personal information or coerce you into depositing money into a bitcoin ATM, or otherwise transfer money to the scammer in some other way.

Please contact any friends or family that may not use Facebook or be familiar with scams and technology to let them know this is going on. These scams often originate from oversees, and will hopefully subside.

Never provide your personal information over the phone to a caller you do not personally know, and even then if the caller purports to be from a law enforcement agency, a banking institution, or some other government agency, and is seeking information about you or telling you have a warrant for your arrest or unpaid citations, end the call. Then contact the agency directly using the phone number from the agency website.
