Riley Howell grew up loving Star Wars and dreaming about its heroes. He never got to see the final film in the Skywalker saga, but the people behind it made sure he would always have a place in its universe. ❤️✨

Riley was just 21 years old when a gunman opened fire at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in April 2019.

Rather than running away, Riley rushed towards the attacker and tackled him.

He lost his life that day, but police credited his actions with helping stop the shooting and saving the lives of others.

After his death, Riley's family shared how much he had loved Star Wars.

He had grown up fascinated by the Jedi, their courage and their willingness to protect others.

When Lucasfilm learned his story, the company decided to honour him in a way that would have meant the world to him.

In ** Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – The Visual Dictionary **, they introduced a Jedi Master named Ri-Lee Howell.

Within the Star Wars universe, Ri-Lee is remembered as a Jedi historian who preserved ancient knowledge of the Force for future generations.

It was a tribute that gave Riley something his family knew he would have treasured: a permanent place among the heroes he had admired since childhood.

His family expressed how meaningful it was to know that his name would live on in a galaxy he loved so much.

Riley spent his life looking up to the Jedi because they stood for courage and protecting others. In the end, he showed that same courage himself — and became one of them. ❤️✨
