Plug In. Power Up. Stay Safe.

Rechargeable batteries and electronic devices are part of everyday life however improper charging can cause fires.

🔋 Use only approved chargers.
🔋 Never charge devices on beds, couches, or other flammable surfaces.
🔋 Do not overload outlets or power strips.
🔋 Replace damaged batteries and charging cords.
🔋 Keep charging devices ventilated and where they can be monitored.
🔋 Never leave charging batteries unattended for long periods.

CHECK. CHARGE. PROTECT.

This Fire Prevention Week, check your smoke alarms, inspect electrical cords, review your family’s escape plan, and practice safe charging habits.

🚨 Fire Prevention Week is October 4–10, 2026! 🚨

This year's theme is "Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Super Power." ⚡️🦸‍♂️

We are focusing on a major safety issue: the safe charging of lithium-ion batteries. From smartphones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools, these batteries are everywhere. While they are incredibly useful, they can pose a serious fire hazard if not handled properly.

You can be a fire safety superhero by following these essential charging tips:

• Use official equipment: Only use the battery and charger that came with your device or a manufacturer-approved replacement.

• Avoid overcharging: Disconnect your devices once they hit 100%—don't leave them charging indefinitely.

• Charge on hard surfaces: Never charge devices on beds, couches, or under pillows. Always use a flat, hard, and well-ventilated surface.

• Keep an eye out: Don't leave large items like e-bikes charging overnight or while you are away from home.

• Store properly: Keep batteries at room temperature and away from direct sunlight or flammable materials.

🙏🏼

It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of one of our own. Jonathan Dunbar tragically passed away early Sunday morning.

Jonathan was a captain on C shift, with 14 dedicated years of service. He brought great knowledge to the fire service, hard work, drive, and earned respect among his crew. His leadership and strong personality will be deeply missed. We will remember Dunbar, as we knew him, from all of his years of service, the brotherhood, and the close relationships formed through time. He will be remembered when we climb upon the truck every shift, and may we honor his service every time.

All of our thoughts and prayers at this time are with his wife, his children, and his family as they navigate through this unimaginable loss. We are deeply saddened at this devastating tragedy. We are grateful for the many years we were given to have known him. May he rest in peace.
