National Fire Prevention Week 2026 is wrapping up! Your Sayreville Volunteer Fire Department has been visiting the local schools all week speaking with young students about the importance of fire prevention and fire safety.

The theme for National Fire Prevention Week this year was "Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower" with a focus on reducing fires and hazards caused by rechargeable lithium ion batteries.

Some points to remember:

🔋Use Approved Chargers: Always use the cord and charger that came with the device or a manufacturer-approved replacement.

🔋Hard Surfaces Only: Charge devices on hard, flat surfaces like a table or desk—never on soft surfaces like beds, couches, or pillows.

🔋Avoid Overcharging: Unplug devices once they are fully charged.

🔋Outdoor Charging: Charge larger mobility devices like e-bikes and scooters outdoors and away from exits.

🔋Watch for Warning Signs: Discontinue use immediately if a device feels unusually hot, starts swelling, emits a strange smell, or smokes.

Hey folks! Big storm headed our way this weekend.

We trust you'll stay indoors but if you must travel beware of potentially hazardous conditions such as the possibility of downed trees, downed power lines, and as always avoid driving through large areas of standing water in the roadways.

Don't make us tap the sign. Please. We're asking nicely.

Stay safe!

🚨 Did you know that most fire departments rely on volunteers? Ordinary people with jobs, families, and responsibilities who step forward when their community needs them most. On November 3rd your Sayreville volunteer fire department needs you to vote yes for a Length Of Service Award Program (LOSAP) adjustment to level out with cost of living adjustments.
