Fall Fire Safety Tips 🔥

10/13/2026

Today, the Fire Department stands with our community to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

We wear pink not just as a color, but as a symbol of our unwavering support for the fighters, the survivors, and the families impacted by breast cancer. Early detection saves lives, and we encourage everyone to talk to their doctors about regular screenings and self-exams.

To the survivors in our community—your strength inspires us every single day. To those currently fighting—you do not stand alone. Your local firefighters are always in your corner. 👩‍🚒❤️

It is Fire Prevention Week, and the Parma Heights Fire Department wants to remind our community to practice safe charging. With lithium-ion batteries powering everything from smartphones to e-scooters, following these essential tips can prevent dangerous battery fires:

• Use Certified Equipment: Only use batteries and charging cables that came with the device or are certified by a nationally recognized testing laboratory like UL.

• Charge Safely: Place devices on hard, flat surfaces while charging. Never charge a phone or laptop on a bed, couch, or pillow, as heat can build up quickly.

• Unplug When Full: Disconnect chargers once devices reach 100%. Overcharging can degrade the battery and create a fire hazard.

• Store Wisely: Keep batteries away from direct sunlight, extreme heat, and flammable materials.

• Safe Disposal: Never throw lithium-ion batteries in the regular trash or recycling bin. Bring them to an approved household hazardous waste collection point.

Let’s keep Parma Heights safe!

We will NEVER FORGET...

09/08/2026

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, a day that forever changed our nation. The attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Flight 93 claimed thousands of innocent lives and revealed both the terrible cost of hatred and the extraordinary courage of ordinary people.

Each year, the Parma Heights Fire Department gathers to remember those who were lost. At exactly 9:59 a.m., the time the South Tower collapsed, we ring the bell and observe one minute of silence. This tradition honors the victims, their families, and the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, and civilians who ran toward danger to help others.

Twenty-five years later, many Americans, including some of our newest firefighters, were not yet born when the attacks occurred. It is our responsibility to keep their memory alive.

To be a firefighter is to accept the duty to protect others, even at great personal risk. September 11 reminds us of the meaning of service, sacrifice, courage, and the solemn promise that we will never forget.

This time of remembrance is open to the public ~ please join us.

🚨 BACK-TO-SCHOOL SAFETY FROM PHFD! 🚨

Hey Parma Heights families! As the kids head back to the classroom, the Parma Heights Fire Department wants to help you refresh your safety routines. Protect your family with these vital tips:

🏡 Home Fire Safety & Escape Plans
👉Test Alarms: Test smoke alarms monthly. Change batteries yearly.
👉Two Ways Out: Map two ways out of every room. Pick an outdoor meeting spot.
👉Practice Drills: Run home fire drills so kids recognize the alarm sound.
👉Stay Low: Teach kids to "get low and go" under smoke. Feel doors with the back of hands.
👉Never Hide: Remind children never to hide under beds or in closets.

🔥 Lighter, Appliance, & Backpack Safety
👉Lock Lighters: Keep matches locked away. Teach kids to report any lighters or matches they find to an adult.
👉Kitchen Boundaries: Do not let kids use stoves or toaster ovens unsupervised.
👉Clear Gear: Keep backpacks, jackets, and books away from heaters and outlets.

🚌 Commuting & School Zone Safety
👉Stop for Buses: Stop completely for school buses with flashing red lights.
👉School Zone Speeds: Obey local speed limits. Watch for crossing guards. Put your phone away while walking, bicycling, or driving.
👉Walking & Biking: Map routes together. Ensure bike riders wear fitted helmets.

Let’s work together to keep Parma Heights safe this school year! ❤️🚒
