After 35 years in fire and emergency services, including more than 25 years serving Paso Robles, Fire Chief Jonathan Stornetta will retire on December 18.

Chief Stornetta has led the department through a period of significant growth that will strengthen public safety for years to come. With community support through Measure J-20, the department nearly doubled its staff, opened Fire Station 3 and the adjacent Public Safety Training Center, and invested in training and equipment to better serve a growing community. Earlier this year, Paso Robles’ ISO Fire Protection Rating improved from Class 3 to Class 2, reflecting Chief Stornetta’s guidance and commitment to investing in public safety.

“Serving as Fire Chief has been the greatest privilege of my career,” Chief Stornetta said. “I am incredibly proud of our staff. Their professionalism, compassion, and commitment to helping others make this department exceptional.”

The City will conduct an open recruitment for the next Fire Chief, with Deputy Fire Chief Jay Enns serving as Interim Fire Chief until the recruitment process is completed.

Thank you, Chief Stornetta, for your decades of service and leadership. We also thank his family for their support, and the Fire & Emergency Services team for their continued dedication to our community.

City staff will be participating in offices across town. If you’re visiting the library or senior center, staff and visitors will be invited to participate there, too.

🔥🚒 It’s National Fire Prevention Week! 🚒🔥
Fire Prevention Week is a great reminder that fire safety starts with all of us. This week, take a few minutes to make sure your family, home, and workplace are prepared.

Check your smoke alarms — make sure they work and replace them when needed.

Have an escape plan — know two ways out of every room and choose a meeting place outside.

Stay alert in the kitchen — cooking is one of the leading causes of home fires.

Use lithium-ion batteries safely — use approved chargers and never ignore signs of overheating or damage.

Practice your plan — especially with children, older adults, and anyone who may need assistance.

And remember: When the alarm sounds, get out and stay out!

This Fire Prevention Week, take one simple step to make your home and community safer. Prevent fires. Protect lives. Be prepared.

Remember to sign up for emergency alerts at readyslo.org!

🚒 Rising up to serve Paso Robles!

Fire department personnel welcomed Truck 8141, a new Pierce Ascendant ladder truck, with a traditional push-in ceremony. Dating back to the horsedrawn era, the tradition celebrates the teamwork, dedication and pride shared by the people who serve our community.

The new truck brings a 107-foot aerial ladder, rear-steer technology for improved maneuverability, a 2,000-gallon-per-minute pump and a 500-gallon water tank. Its purchase was supported by voter-approved Measure J-20 funding.
As the ladder rises, so does our ability to reach and serve people across Paso Robles. Welcome to the team, Truck 8141!

It's kind of chic to start planning now for the upcoming storm season. September is “National Preparedness Month” and time to prep is now. Take look around your property, talk to your family about your plan, and be Paso Prepared:
o Sign up for local emergency alerts at readyslo.org
o Clear leaves and debris from gutters and drains
o Secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and loose items
o Check storm drains near your property and keep them clear
o Have flashlights, batteries, and emergency supplies ready -- pack a "go bag"

A little preparation now makes a HUGE difference later.
