FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JOINT INVESTIGATION WITH DCFS LEADS TO ARREST OF PATTERSON WOMAN

Chief Garrett Grogan and the Patterson Police Department announce the arrest of a Patterson woman following a joint investigation with the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) involving allegations of illegal narcotics use and the endangerment of minor children.

In August 2026, DCFS initiated an investigation after receiving a report involving a minor child who had been transported to a local hospital following the ingestion of medication.

During the course of the investigation, the minor child underwent a drug screening that yielded a positive result for co***ne. Following these findings, DCFS contacted the Patterson Police Department to assist with the investigation.

As the investigation progressed, additional drug screenings were administered to Johnson’s other minor children. Those screenings also returned positive results for co***ne, raising serious concerns regarding the safety and welfare of the children.

On October 7, 2026, During an interview with investigators, Shawnna Johnson, 34, of Patterson, Louisiana, admitted to using illegal narcotics.

Based on information and evidence obtained during the joint investigation, investigators established probable cause for Johnson’s arrest.

Johnson was subsequently taken into custody at approximately 10:57 a.m. She was booked and processed on the following charges:

-Improper Supervision of a Minor by a Parent or Legal Custodian — 3 Counts
-Cruelty to Juveniles — 2 Counts

At the time of this release, Johnson remains incarcerated with no bond set.

Chief Garrett Grogan emphasizes that the safety and well-being of children remain a priority for the Patterson Police Department. The department takes allegations involving child endangerment seriously and remains committed to working alongside state agencies to protect vulnerable members of the community.

The Patterson Police Department extends its appreciation to the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services for its cooperation and assistance throughout this investigation.

This investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
